Scene 1 (0s)

[Audio] Hello and welcome to my year 8 Media presentation. My name is Jai Singh and today I will be analysing and evaluating how two different film posters use Media codes and conventions to represent ideas and show genre..

Scene 2 (15s)

[Audio] The two film posters that I will be analysing today are the most common posters used for Wakanda Forever and 2 Fast 2 Furious..

Scene 3 (24s)

[Audio] Wakanda forever is a 2022 American superhero film directed by Ryan Coogler, based on the Marvel comics character 'Black Panther' or Shuri. It stars Letitia Wright as Black Panther, who attempts to synthetically recreate the heart Shaped herb for her brother (The King of Wakanda) who is dying from a unspecified terminal illness. The poster you see here was used heavily in marketing the film. The conventions this poster contains are the film's title, two main images, a release date, and a production blurb..

Scene 4 (1m 0s)

[Audio] This slide shows an in depth analysis of each convention of the poster. I have spoken about how colour, font, imagery, scale and text are used in each convention to show meaning. I have thought about how these things show the films genre and also how they represent the themes and ideas that are within the movie..

Scene 5 (1m 36s)

[Audio] Here, I have analysed the overall layout of the Wakanda Forever poster. I wanted to draw conclusions as to why the designer chose to place things where they were. I thought about how these choices effected the memorability of the poster and how this contributed to the marketing on the film..

Scene 6 (2m 2s)

[Audio] Lastly, I evaluated the Wakanda Forever poster. Here, I made a judgement call about how effectively the poster showed it's Superhero genre, how well it showcased the film's story and how successful it may have been at advertising the movie. Overall, I came to the conclusion that it was partly effective at all of these things and this was largely due to the colours, images, and layout used..

Scene 7 (2m 34s)

[Audio] 2 Fast 2 Furious is a 2003 Action movie that tells the story of Paul Walker as Brian O'Conner: A former LAPD police officer. Ex-LAPD officer turned fugitive Brian O'Conner makes a living participating in illegal street races organized by his mechanic friend Tej Parker in Miami. After winning a race against drivers including Suki, the police show up and Brian is arrested. He is given a deal by his former boss FBI Agent Bilkins and U.S. Customs Agent Markham to go undercover and bring down Argentinian drug lord Carter Verone in exchange for clearing his criminal record. The poster you see here was the main poster used to advertise the film. It contains many conventions including the film's title, images, the famous actors and actresses involved, a rating, a Tagline, Reference to famous musician and a production blurb..

Scene 8 (3m 33s)

[Audio] This slide shows my very in depth analysis of each convention on the poster. I wanted to talk about how the poster used colour and imagery to show meaning. I thought about the text, scale and size used when analysing this poster. I talked about how these things showed the film's genre, themes and how these could have helped with advertising..

Scene 9 (4m 23s)

[Audio] This shows my analysis of the layout of the poster. I thought about why the poster designer may have placed things where they are and chosen the scale that they did. I tried to conclude why they dedicated so much space to imagery and why they wanted the audience's eye to those features..

Scene 10 (4m 52s)

[Audio] This slide shows my evaluation of The 2 Fast 2 Furious poster. I made judgement about the effectiveness of the conventions and codes used to show genre, storyline and advertise the film. I thought about how the colours, text, layout and images contributed to this and came to the conclusion that the poster effectively shows the Action genre. However, I believe that due to the large size of the title, the poster is very effective at advertising the film..

Scene 11 (5m 23s)

[Audio] What you see here is my evaluation and comparison of both posters. I made a final judgement here on which poster I believe was more successful in showing genre and advertising the film. I decided that both films used conventions and codes to effectively show genre, but 2 Fast 2 Furious was a more successful advertising tool..
