[Audio] These are the conventions of the Harry Potter film poster. These include the background, main image, production blurb, other image, movie title, tagline and the release date..

[Audio] This is my analysis of conventions about each poster element. Talking about the background, images, title, production blurb and the other details this poster has.. 

Scene 5

The background features a cool colour scheme to give off a sinister vibe to the movie poster. This gives the person a sense of melancholy and mystery in relation to the characters expression as they do not look  happy or keen, instead they are looking wearily towards the viewer.

Other imagery of this film poster being a mysterious veiny and elongated hand with sharp claws. This hints to the viewer that this movie might be a fantasy or horror themed movie. Showing that the main protagonists might have to face a mysterious monster lurking underneath their nose as the monsters appearance is not fully revealed giving the movie a better sense of mystery not knowing the villain.

Title of the movie stands out but still harmonises with the posters cool colour scheme. The font of the title is very sharp to express to the reader that Harry Potter is not a happy and joyful movie due to the edges and the sharp ends of each letter almost forming a lighting bolt. If the title where to have a soft edged font it would communicate to the viewer that the movie is soft in bubbly but that is not the case for this film.

Production blurb containing information on what actors where featured in the movie. This is marginalised as it is in a smaller font than the title, this makes the production blurb stand out less in contrast to the title as the production blurb is in a simpler font whereas the title of the film  Harry Potter  is put in an edgy font to create a clear contrast between the title and the production blurb.

Main image of the main protagonists looking straight at the viewer to create a sense of tension. The characters almost looking mad or worried. This give the viewer a clear sense of the characters personalities through the characters expressions and body language for example the character on the left having a hunched posture and a worried expression painted on their face in contrast to the middle character having a strong stance telling the viewer that this character is brave and strong and does something heroic during the movie when they’re fighting an antagonist.

Other images/Little details in the poster that might hint to the movies plot and different side characters that might appear in the movie. Tells us there will be other characters as the story progresses.

[Audio] This is my overall analysis on how the Harry Potter movie poster is laid out, how the poster puts the main characters in the spotlight and how mysterious the overall poster is..

Analysis of Overall layout – Harry Potter

This poster of the film Harry Potter displays little details within its poster that being the mysterious man and the hand in the left side of the poster. The main characters are put into spotlight as they are placed in the centre of the poster, allowing the viewer to directly see them. The title is in Harry Potters iconic font, that being the edgy lettering resembling a lighting bolt.

[Audio] I've come to the conclusion that Harry Potter effectively communicates the film genre to the viewer as a mysterious creature with long veiny hands are shown in the background of the poster, which clearly hints that it is a fantasy film..

In conclusion, this films movie poster is full of details which effectively communicate to the viewer that the movie is some sort of a fantasy movie as the poster shows a veiny and abnormal hand and other gadgets and gibbets that we don’t typically see in real world movies. The main protagonists that are featured in the film are directly displaced in the middle of the movie poster highlighting their importance. In addition, the cool colour scheme gives off a sorrowful vibe, hinting that the movie is not a comedy of some sort. This is further proven right as the font of the title is edgy, not in a soft or bubbly font which are more likely seen in cartoony films. This helps effectively advertise the movies to older audiences as the poster communicates that the movie is a fantasy film.

[Audio] This is my analysis of each of the SAW posters conventions, talking about the films background, tagline, title, imagery, and the production blurb.. 

Scene 10

This poster highlights the title by making the letters big and white which is clearly seen by the viewer as the rest of the movies colour scheme is dark and ambiguous.

This films poster features a bland black background showing minimal details and images. However, this give the viewer a mysterious, sinister feeling. Showing minimal details helps convey a sense of uneasiness, almost as if there is someone lurking amongst the blackness of the background.

The other images in this poster shows a skull which leads the viewer to think that death is present within the movie as skulls represent death and danger. Furthermore, this gives the poster a blood curdling vibe. This effectively communicates the movies theme as the poster features horrifying elements in correlation to scary movies.

The SAW film poster shows a character looking horrifically at something behind the viewer. Hinting the viewer to think that there might be something deadly lurking behind them, a killer or a monster. In addition, the machine mounted on the horrified characters head is shown to be covering their mouth as if making sure the person doesn’t scream creating a sense of eery silence.

Production blurb being much smaller that the title to prevent the title and the blurb from colliding together as the we can infer that the title is far more important as it is bigger and bolder than the blurb.

Tagline translating as ‘Every murder is a piece of a puzzle.” Communicating that people will die and that the protagonists have to solve a puzzle or a murder will occur. This shows that it is a horror movie as murder occurs within the movie.

[Audio] I have come to the conclusion that SAW is also very effective in displaying the film genre as it features elements of a horror movie, that being the terrified character and the skull.. 

Scene 11

Overall, this film poster of SAW follows a minimalist style. However, this creates a sense of mystery within the poster as it has a dark background. In addition to the main image being a horrified character looking at something beyond the dark abyss hinting that something horrific might be in front of the character that we don’t know about. This is paired with a big white and bold title which contrasts with the dark background. Furthermore, the white resembles unfriendliness and emptiness which correlates with murder or death which are generally present in horror movies.

[Audio] In conclusion, the SAW poster effectively communicated the horror film genre as the poster features a very eery vibe to it. Which reinforces the horror film stereotype.. 

Scene 12

In conclusion, this film effectively communicates a horror film theme as the poster features a gloomy and sadistic tone and vibe. This is shown through the grainy filter. This is present in most horror movie posters to create a sense of distraught. In addition, the title is white and bold which is highlighted and separated from the dark background, this creates an eye catching effect which pops out to the viewer. In contrast to the production blurb which is separated from the posters title as it is smaller than the tagline and the title which allows the tagline and the title appear to the viewers eyes. These features help advertise the movie to horror fan fanatics.

[Audio] I have come to the conclusion that although both film posters where effective in displaying their film genre, I believed that Harry Potter was more effective in advertising the film as the designer uses imagery to hint at clues about the story, for example: the hand and the man, whereas SAW shows minimal imagery within the poster. Therefore, Harry Potter is far more effective in communicating the genre and advertising it's movie than SAW.. 

Scene 13

When comparing both of these posters, it is clear that they are effective in displaying their movie genres.  SAW  being horror, and Harry Potter being Fantasy. They do this through the two posters use of imagery, layout and colour. In terms of layout The tiny details of  Harry Potter  allows the viewer to see fragments of the posters plot, for example, the veiny hand hinting that a monster might appear sooner r later in the story. In addition to the mysterious man lurking and watching the protagonists in the middle of the poster. In contrast to  SAW  which shows little to no imagery which shows the reader little information about the movies plot and story, as there are no hints directing to events in the movie. In conclusion, although both film poster effectively show the theme of the films, Harry Potter is far better at advertising the film as it provides hints and clues to the story and it features more details unlike the SAW movie poster.

This is my overall analysis on how the Harry Potter movie poster is laid out, how the poster puts the main characters in the spotlight and how mysterious the overall poster is.

I've come to the conclusion that Harry Potter effectively communicates the film genre to the viewer as a mysterious creature with long veiny hands are shown in the background of the poster, which clearly hints that it is a fantasy film.

I have come to the conclusion that although both film posters where effective in displaying their film genre, I believed that Harry Potter was more effective in advertising the film as the designer uses imagery to hint at clues about the story, for example

the hand and the man, whereas SAW shows minimal imagery within the poster

Therefore, Harry Potter is far more effective in communicating the genre and advertising it's movie than SAW.
