What is the WMFC Trials and Junior Pathways Program?.
Player expectations. Expectations of players in the CPL competition is they attend all training and matches which can occur on sundays and saturdays and long weekends. Training is usually twice a week with options to attend a third general skills session. Junior competitions match day is Saturday only and no matches played on long weekends. The Club fully understands that Family, School then Football are priorities for your player. As long as there is good communication between Player/Parent and Coach/Manager we are reasonable with reasons for absences..
What time will trials start?. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your trial time to sign in and receive your number. Tuesday 2 November: U11/12/13/14s: 5:00pm - 6:00pm U15/16/17/18s: 6.15pm - 7.15pm Sunday 7 November: U11/12/13/14s: 5:00pm - 6:00pm U15/16/17/18s: 6.15pm - 7.15pm Tuesday 9 November: U11/12/13/14s: 5:00pm - 6:00pm U15/16/17/18s: 6.15pm - 7.15pm We ask that all players bring a drink bottle, shin pads, boots..
What to expect at trials.. Each trial will run for the time period allocated (1hr total). There will be a varied skill level of support staff running the sessions and we will all be making mistakes. The assessors may seem to spend more time on some players than others, don’t be discouraged by this, it is possible they want to assess several skill aspects of each player or see different or repetitive behaviours. Parents, if you see your player not currently participating it is not a reflection on the player it is part of the session plan and they will get plenty of playing time to be assessed..
What to expect at trials cont.... The sessions will be varied in delivery and pattern. Some will be small sided overload games of 7v5 or 6v4, then they will see a structured skills practice and then move into a game of 6v6 or 7v7. Then sessions will be more traditional with a skills warm-up, a skills game, then a free game. We are not coaching the skills at these trials. We are looking at what and where each player is at with their own skills. We may do some personal coaching to see if a player can learn, is coachable. Or we may ask your player to try something different such as passing more often and less 1v1 as they may not have picked up on the session objectives..
Trials objectives.. Session objectives will set the tone for each grading criteria. EG: If we are doing striking the ball and first touch and we have players 1v1 or running with the ball we will intervene and remind players of the skills that we are looking for in this skill set. This allows us to find the players who are not as coachable as we would like. Don’t worry if you make mistakes. We all do. We are looking for resilience. Can players make mistakes, learn and recover from those mistakes? We can help players at training with perception, decision, execution..
Just remember. Have fun! Enjoy playing football Try new things and It’s ok to make mistakes! WMFC prides itself as a friendly supportive club dedicated to player development..
