[Audio] Class of 2024! Welcome to this year's ICT boot camp, where it's not just about coding, its solving problems..
[Audio] In this presentation we will look at the following: One, take a glimpse into the world of technology. Two, discuss one of the problem-solving techniques, called computational thinking. Three, what you should expect this week. And lastly, what we expect from you..
[Audio] Today we know we all depend on technology. Whether it is for communication. Or we're just looking for some new information? Or maybe doing some banking. Just look at one the newest bank in the country..
undefined. Context.
[Audio] Yet so few of us know how to read and write the language of coding that sits behind this technology, and I guess that's why you guys are here..
[Audio] The ability to code is an amazing power. One that enables you to create solutions for problems and find new and faster way to operate.
[Audio] By learning how to code you are gaining the ability to create worlds, to connect people and communities and to use technology in all new ways..
[Audio] Learning coding will help you understand how technology works, how computers think, and it helps in creating new technologies and, therefore?.
[Audio] We need tomorrow's talent to create these future technologies, and to understand the world of coding. To obtain such skill, we first need to understand this concept..
[Audio] Computational thinking. And this is why we called you to bootcamp. Computational thinking? What is it?.
undefined. Computational Thinking.
[Audio] These are the four key techniques to computational thinking: Decomposition – breaking down a complex problem or system into smaller, more manageable parts Pattern recognition – looking for similarities among and within problems ion – focusing on the important information only, ignoring irrelevant detail algorithms - developing a step-by-step solution to the problem, or the rules to follow to solve the problem.
[Audio] So, this week you will be given activities, almost every day, which will require computational thinking. Points will be rewarded for doing activities and task completion. In day 2 we will introduce some of the online platforms you need to know. Day 3 will focus on computer literacy. In DAY 4 – we write our first program. We end the week with an official welcome to the ICT faculty and mark the start of your academic journey..
[Audio] You are required to attend the whole week every day. Please, please, please engage with all the activities that you are given. We're here for you. If there's any question, or anything that you are not sure about, don't hesitate to ask. Points will be awarded for some of the activities, make sure you collect as many points as possible, to claim some yummy goodies at the end of the week..
[Audio] I hope you enjoy this week as a start to a new adventure in the world of technology..
