Light trails of traffic in city. V2X Initiatives for Road Safety (VIROS).
[Audio] V2x which stands for vehicle to everything technology, is a complete road safety and traffic efficiency solution that allows vehicles to communicate with its surrounding objects even beyond obstructions in an I T S ecosystem such as the other vehicles, road infrastructures, devices, and also the pedestrians. According to a study by the World Bank, countries that do not invest in road safety could miss out on 7 to 22% in potential per capita GDP growth over a 24-year period and that this requires policymakers to prioritize proven investments in road safety and this definitely includes V2X technologies. The cost of inaction is more than 1.25 million deaths a year globally, diminished productivity and reduced growth prospects..
[Audio] To this date, the United States, European Union countries, Japan and China are into massive deployment of V2X technologies for safer and more efficient road networks. According to the Global System for Mobile Communications Association forecasts, by 2025, V2X could prevent 260,000 accidents, save 11,000 lives, save 280 million hours of driving each year, and avoid 400,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.".
[Audio] Some of the things that V2X can address especially for road safety include forward collision warning.

[Audio] Project VIROS aims to develop V2X technologies designed for road safety in localized road traffic settings in the Philippines. This project is co-implemented with the D O S T Advanced Science and Technology Institute..
[Audio] First, the project reviews the i-Atom of the Cyberphysical Transportations System, a D O S T PCIEERD project led by Dr. Adrian Valdez that was completed in 2019. The i-ATOM cyberizes traffic control processes to be used for traffic data gathering and analysis, monitoring, and traffic flow optimization. The VIROS project will redesign these traffic controllers to improve reliability and energy efficiency and integrate V2X communications capability for V2I use cases..
[Audio] Next, the project shall then perform characterization of existing V2X devices to be deployed in local road networks and investigate their reliability in different traffic conditions. We will then thoroughly perform research and traffic simulations to implement use cases for a Vehicle-to- Vehicle, Vehicle-to- Infrastructure, and Vehicle-to-Pedestrian interactions among road entities. To address security issues in V2X technologies, we shall also integrate blockchain technology for a more secured, trusted and decentralized I T S ecosystem. Finally, the envisioned ecosystem with V2X communications and blockchain-based platform is planned to be deployed in U.P. Diliman Campus for pilot study..
[Audio] In summary, the project shall - Demonstrate, the capability of a locally developed V2X technology in addressing road safety issues in the Philippines, Identify, the optimal prototype system characteristics for localized traffic settings, Determine, whether modifications are needed to existing technologies for local viability and provide insight in future developments, And Support, various local agencies and policy-making entities in estimating the effectiveness and potential road safety and traffic efficiency benefits of a wide scale deployment of a Filipino V2X system..
