What is it? ‘A video chat platform designed to make virtual interactions more human” A crossover between Zoom/Webex and video game chat that is meant to be applied for professional setting. Mainly uses proximity chat, where user can move around and get close to a person or a group of people and join in their conversation and step away while having a shared sense of the room. Accessible via browser: www.gather.town/app

Get near to other users, and a video feed will automatically
between you, where you can freely talk as you would in a Zoom
call. However, instead of it being the Zoom-style rooms you
enter and leave, Gather feels so much more natural, with you
wandering around the space and mingling groups
scattered throughout the same space.

Scene 3

Users create an avatar where they can move around in a room. Within the room, they can interact with objects such as posters and videos. In close proximity, objects will pop up or other users will be visible and heard through automatic voice call. Center stage is a feature that can be used by owner of the room, or given to a user so that their audio and video can be broadcasted to entire room. This is useful for organising the class to pay attention to a speaker. There is a follow feature where you can click on a users name and the avatar will be shown directions or taken directly to the user of interest. Prevents users from getting lost in the room. .

Scene 4

Room or space can be password protected to prevent unwanted guests.  Only room owners can grant builder tools or lock building tool feature.  This is important when allowing students to decorate and put up posters and videos, and prevent other people from accidentally deleting objects. Chat boxes can be saved, which is important for users to record important messages that are visible to everyone in the room.

Scene 5

In short, yes! Fun and effective at getting students to work together and curate their space as teammates. Encourages healthy competition as they can now see what other groups are doing in their space as well as the materials presented by other groups. Gives a sense of community building and ice-breaking. Students communicated they feel proud their work is given a space that can be visited by others and they can invite anyone they wish to see and experience it.
