[Audio] Welcome to UnityLab's Emergency Action and Fire Prevention Plan Training for Employees..
[Audio] Thank you for joining us today. There are a number of resources shared with you today in conjunction with this training. An Emergency Contact Information listing. A facility map showing the exits, locations of fire extinguishers, fire alarm pulls, and eye wash stations. An Emergency Reporting Plan. All of these documents can also be found throughout the facility and in the Administrator's office. An acknowledgement form is included to be signed at the end..
[Audio] The safety of our employees, and anyone within the facility, is our top priority. To ensure everyone's safety, and in compliance with OSHA regulations, we have developed an Emergency Action and Fire Prevention Plan..
[Audio] This plan outlines who is responsible; who has an active role in safety at UnityLab, including assisting with an emergency and/or an evacuation; potential emergencies that can occur; and what to do if we experience an emergency..
[Audio] Who is involved? The Plan Administrator/Coordinator is responsible for maintaining and updating the Emergency Action and Fire Prevention Plan. This role also leads the Safety Committee and is responsible for enforcing safety standards, safety training and education, and regular safety audits. Emergency Coordinators are responsible for ensuring all individuals are accounted for during an emergency or evacuation. These individuals should be notified of an emergency that occurs. Please refer to the Contact Listing or Emergency Reporting documents for the names of those currently in these roles..
[Audio] Who is involved? Continued. Emergency Sweep Coordinators, all members of the Safety Committee, are responsible for ushering everyone out of the building and checking all rooms before exiting themselves. All of the individuals noted here have also been trained in first aid and CPR. Please refer to the Contact Listing or Emergency Reporting documents for the names of those currently in these roles..
[Audio] Emergencies can be caused by fire, chemicals, weather, and many other factors. Any emergency that occurs should be reported to the Plan Administrator or Emergency Coordinators..
[Audio] For potential weather emergencies, listen for advisories, check for updates from UnityLab, and report any urgent updates from advisories to UnityLab. In severe wind, tornado, or thunderstorms; remember a "watch" refers to the possibility of an occurrence – a "warning" indicates it IS occurring – stay indoors in an interior room or basement. In a blizzards, stay indoors – if no heat, close off unneeded rooms, cover windows; if outside, find shelter and stay covered. In the rare instance of a flood, if you are outdoors, climb to higher ground; if indoor, be ready to evacuate as directed..
[Audio] For potential emergencies involving criminal activity or a hostile individual or intruder, please follow these guidelines. If you observe criminal activity or a hostile individual or intruder, call 911 if you're able to. Report as much information as possible and stay on phone until police arrive. DO NOT approach the individual. If directly involved, please cooperate with the individual to the extent possible. DO NOT put yourself at risk. Hide or lock yourself in a room if you're able to..
[Audio] If you encounter an armed suspect, try to remain calm, try to proceed to a room that can be locked, stay down on floor, stay quiet, cover windows, and call 911. If you're able to flee the scene, have an escape plan in mind and do not take anything with you, move quickly, have your hands visible. If police have arrived, follow their instructions. Do not attempt to remove anyone that may have been injured. Police who arrive on the scene will most likely be in teams of 4 in tactical gear and armed. They will not immediately stop to assist anyone injured as their main focus is to stop the active/armed individual. Listen to them and stay calm..
[Audio] For an emergency involving chemicals, liquids, or gas spills, try to stop the leak or spill. Contain it to the extent possible. Notify the Plan Administrator and management of the spill or leak and any damage that may have occurred. Did it reach the ground outside, or any waters? Are there any injuries? If fire/medical attention is needed, call 911. Review Safety Data Sheets for recommended actions. SDS Sheets are located in each department as well as in the Administrator's office. If flammable material is spilled, warn everyone immediately! Control sources of ignition and ventilate the area. Use required proper protective equipment..
[Audio] In the event of an infectious disease outbreak, please ensure a clean and healthy environment by sanitizing areas, washing hands, covering coughs, and using face masks if necessary. If you're showing signs of sickness, notify your supervisor and stay home. Follow CDC guidelines. UnityLab will provide additional guidance dependent upon the circumstances. Everyone should feel comfortable reporting any unsafe conditions, emergencies or accidents. Once reported, the appropriate team members will follow up and determine the best course of action..
[Audio] What do you do in case of an emergency? In the case of any emergency, the alarm system should be activated or an announcement made. An evacuation should commence if necessary. Proper authorities should be notified such as calling 911 and any specific utility that may be involved..
[Audio] In the event of an evacuation, evacuate through the nearest exit. There are 8 exit routes. The facility map is shown on the next screen. Any visitor should exit with the employee they were onsite with. Meet at the Rally Point for the exit you leave through. Exits 1 through 4 meet at Rally Point A on the North Side of the building by the dock. Exits 5 through 8 meet at Rally Point B on the South Side of the building by the tree line in parking lot..
[Audio] A map of the facility is shown here, indicating all exit routes, eye wash stations, fire alarm pulls, and fire extinguishers..
[Audio] During an evacuation, the Emergency Coordinators will report immediately to their respective Rally Points with a copy of the Emergency Action Plan and a current employee roster. A head count will be taken to ensure everyone has evacuated safely. Sweep Coordinators will check all rooms ushering everyone out of the building and report to a Rally Point..
[Audio] There are only 3 reasons why any employee should stay in the building and not immediately evacuate. You're assigned a special responsibility. You are a sweep coordinator. IF you have received fire extinguisher training and attempt to control a small fire. THIS IS NOT MANDATORY.You are to evacuate before conditions become unsafe. Once you leave the building, DO NOT return for any reason. Responding emergency officials will enter the building with any information provided to them by the Plan Coordinator or Emergency Coordinators or Sweep Coordinators. DO NOT return to the building for any reason. You are to wait at the Rally Points until you are directed otherwise..
[Audio] UnityLab has a pull alarm system that can be activated – these alarm pulls are indicated on the facility map. Anyone can pull the alarm if an emergency occurs. An announcement can also be made to alert employees to an emergency..
[Audio] Fire extinguishers are located throughout the facility and their location is indicated on the map. The first step when responding to an early-stage fire is to sound the alarm, and if appropriate, call 911. Fire extinguisher training will be provided for all employees; however it is NOT mandatory for you to attempt to extinguish the fire. If you choose to try to extinguish the fire, make sure you identify the safest evacuation route first. Implement the training you obtained. Evacuate immediately if the extinguisher is empty, does not work properly, or the fire progresses..
[Audio] UnityLab shall rely on professional emergency responders to administer emergency first aid, CPR, and rescue and medical services, etc. Aside from these professionals, however, the Plan Administrator, Emergency Coordinators, and Safety Committee members have been trained to administer basic first aid, stop the bleed techniques, and CPR until emergency responders arrive..
[Audio] For anyone requiring first aid, those trained can and should administer basic first aid until Emergency Responders arrive. If during an evacuation, this should be done at a safe area outside near the rally point. Don't move the victim unless necessary. Communicate with Emergency Responders the nature of the medical emergency and where you're located. Send someone to meet the Emergency Responders so they can get to you quickly. In the case of exposure to hazardous materials, consult the SDS sheets..
[Audio] Fire safety is everyone's responsibility. Housekeeping issues are the leading causes of safety incidents in the workplace, such as fires and injuries. Practicing good housekeeping minimizes these risks..
[Audio] To practice good housekeeping and prevent unsafe conditions, it is recommended to ensure lighting is adequate and burned out lightbulbs are replaced. Check electrical appliances, cords, outlets, extension cords, and connections to ensure proper use and that no trip hazards are present. Confirm that furniture and items are not pushed up against outlets. Unplug unused items. In addition, report any trip hazards you see and clean up any spills in a timely manner. Keep equipment in good working condition. Nothing should be stacked within 18 inches of sprinkler heads. Refer to Safety Data Sheets and use proper protective equipment..
[Audio] Recommended fire prevention tips include clearing obstacles from walkways and exits. Storing flammable materials away from sources of heat in proper containers. Testing fire systems annually. Carrying out fire alarm testing and evacuation drills. And ensuring that equipment that could be a source of ignition is disabled or turned off when not in use. The Plan Administrator and his team will ensure that equipment is maintained and inspected..
[Audio] There are different types of fire hazards that may occur. Electrical fire hazards can be caused by electrical system failures or overloads, resulting from lose ground connections, wiring with frayed insulation, etc. To prevent this, make sure worn wires are replaced, use only appropriately rated fuses, never use extension cords as substitutes for wiring, check wiring in hazardous locations where the risk of fire is greater, check that electrical equipment is properly grounded, and ensure adequate spacing..
[Audio] Office equipment such as computers, fax machines and printers should be turned off at the end of each day. Avoid overloading circuits and keep storage areas clear. Any extension cords should not be under carpets and any trash, paper, or recycling should not be allowed to accumulate. If using a portable heater, it should have tip over protection, adequate spacing between the heater and other items. It should be plugged directly into an outlet, not an extension cord, and make sure it's unplugged when not in use..
[Audio] Any plumbing, grinding, welding or open flame work is only to be conducted by authorized personnel and only in designated areas. There must be proper ventilation. Any torches, regulators, etc., are to be UL listed or FM approved. Employees working in this capacity must use proper protective equipment. This type of work is prohibited in areas where sprinkler protection is out of service and also in areas where there may gases or vapors present creating an explosive atmosphere. Plan Administrator will ensure proper working conditions for these activities..
[Audio] Another fire hazard to consider are flammable and combustible materials. Class A Combustibles are common materials such as wood, paper, rubber and plastics. Make sure to keep areas clean and dispose of waste and trash in metal lined bins with tight fitting covers. Class B combustibles include flammable liquids like gas, diesel, oils, greases, tars, oilbased paints/lacquers and also flammable gases and aerosols. Water should NOT be used to extinguish fires caused by flammable liquids, but rather exclude the air around the burning liquid. Water, multipurpose dry chemical and Halon 1211 are approved fire extinguishing agents for other Class B combustibles. The Plan Administrator will evaluate the presence of combustible materials as certain substances can ignite at relatively low temperatures..
[Audio] There is no smoking allowed in the building. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas outside the facility..
[Audio] Safety and fire prevention are everyone's responsibility. If you see a hazard of any kind, report it. Know and comply with policies and procedures. Participate in the training and evacuation drills provided..
[Audio] Thank you for your attention during this training. Should you have any questions regarding the Emergency Action and Fire Prevention Plan training, please follow up with the Plan Administrator, and Emergency Coordinator, or a member of the Safety Committee. Please sign and return the Acknowledgement Form..
