The Four Layers of Diversity. There are four layers of Diversity. Personality is at the center of the diversity wheel because it represents a stable set of characteristics responsible for a person’s identity. Internal characteristics like race, gender, physical ability, and age are at Surface-level because they are unchangeable and clearly visible. The third layer is of external influencers that alters your perceptions, behaviour and attitudes. It includes your educational background, experience, parental/marital status, income, habits, and appearance. The outer-most layer includes organizational dimensions like seniority, work location, job title, department, management status and work content. Layer 3 and 4 are considered as Deep Layer.
