[Audio] 2. A seismic accelerograph is a strong motion instrument that continually measures, records and monitors motions of the ground or tremors, whether it be natural or artificial. It can be integrated into an alarm system to alert people in a building when an earthquake occurs and prevent secondary disaster by shutting down power systems ( lights, elevator, etc). Data gathered after an earthquake is vital to Structural Engineers to determine if structures are able to withstand future earthquakes or are in need of retrofitting.
