[Audio] COMMUNICATION Security officers must be able to communicate effectively with the public and be able to interact with their supervisors and co-workers.
[Audio] DECISION MAKING Security officers must be able to think quickly and have good judgement so that they can make the best decisions, as he or she will likely experience situations where they do not have the option to ask others for input as timing is crucial.
[Audio] PUNCTUALITY Punctuality is an important skill for the modern security officer to have. The client, your employer and your co-workers are all depending on you to arrive for duty on time. It is a sign of professionalism and helps you to stand out as a trustworthy and reliable employee.
[Audio] MEMORY A security officers memory is an invaluable asset for memorizing a license plate number, facial features or other particulars that can help detect and prevent criminal behavior.
[Audio] OBSERVATION Security officers must use all of his or her 5 senses and be highly aware of their surroundings at all times and should notice almost instantly when something is wrong.
[Audio] PHYSICAL ABILITY Security officers may be required to possess certain physical skills. For example, security officers must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time. Be sure to learn about the physical requirements of a specific post to make sure you are comfortable with them.
[Audio] AVAILABILITY The most important ability a modern security officer has is availability. If an officer is unavailable for duty all the other skills he or she possesses are also unavailable.
