Introduction

The Road Not Taken is actually a poem made by Robert Frost for his friend Edward Thomas after they have a walk. It was written down as a joke but then it was taken seriously by Thomas and this poem end up being one of the most well known poem.

And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.

-The poem consists of four stanzas of five lines each. -With the rhyme scheme as 'ABAAB' -The first line rhymes with the third and fourth. -The second line rhymes with the fifth.

The Purpose of The Road Not Taken

The Road Not Taken is a poem with a purpose to let readers to think about their paths in life. Along their paths, they will absolutely come across choices and decisions that they have to made whether they choose to follow the waves or sail alone. This can be seen in the line: “ I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. ” This explains the poet’s choice in taking a chance and succeeded. Throughout the poem, the poet mentioned words that convey his thoughts about the life choices and that will allow the reader to understand the main purpose of the poet’s intention in writing this poem.
