Scene 1 (0s)

[Audio] My topic is on the supply and demand of teachers in Alberta..

Scene 2 (8s)

[Audio] Right now, on the chart we are sitting at 50 thousand teachers, and they are each getting paid about $60,000 each year..

Scene 3 (29s)

[Audio] The demand goes up for teachers so then the price will be raised so they can try and get more teachers..

Scene 4 (40s)

[Audio] This picture here shows that 60% of teachers leave because they say that they're pay is unfair. Over 270,000 teachers leave each year due to having low wages..

Scene 5 (54s)

[Audio] Because very little people want to become teachers the supply of teachers decreases while the demand for new teachers is increasing due to many teachers quitting or not enough new graduates want to become a teacher..

Scene 6 (1m 10s)

[Audio] This is a factor that contributes to the decreasing supply of teachers. Ever since 1970, there has only been around 18% of college freshmen that had an interest in become a teacher. Now, only around 4% have even just an interest in becoming a teacher..

Scene 7 (1m 26s)

[Audio] The spreadsheet shown here shows the wage increase by different jobs over the years. As you can see, between 2012 and 2022, teachers have only gotten a 9.5% increase in their wages, while OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) have received a 24.95% increase. This reflects on why new graduates rarely want to become teachers as shown in slide 6..

Scene 8 (1m 53s)

[Audio] This graph shows that before COVID, on average, there were less teachers that were quitting. Durning COVID, there was a climax of teachers quitting; the majority that quit on their own (49%), 34% that got layed off most likely due to refusal to get vaccinations, and 17% that quit for some other reason..

Scene 9 (2m 16s)

[Audio] After COVID there has been a significant decline in teacher. As shown from 2018-2024. There has been .58 decrease in teachers per capita..

Scene 10 (2m 28s)

[Audio] During COVID there was such a large shortage of teachers, the USA started recruiting soldiers, the national guard, etc. to take the place of teachers. Substitute teachers as well as full time teachers were in very high demand..
