Our main focus today will be on Fayaz ul Hasan Bhat, an entrepreneur from Sopore, who owns a traditional orchard in his village and has been working in pharmaceutical distribution for the past 20 years. Despite his lack of knowledge regarding high density orchards in North Kashmir and the unavailability of true to type planting material, Mr Fayaz and his friends established a nursery to provide good quality planting material to growers all over Kashmir. They procured in-depth knowledge about high density orchards from growers of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Mr Fayaz's unit, Hi-five Agro Skill Nursery, is based in Seeloo, Sopore, and is dedicated to providing high-quality planting material to farmers in Kashmir. [Audio] We are delighted to visit the Entrepreneurship Development Institute and to interact with entrepreneurs from Hi-Five Agro Skills, Seeloo, Sopore, Jammu and Kashmir. This visit was made possible due to the partnership between Fayaz Ahmad Dar and Shabir Ahmad. Hi-Five Agro Skills farm covers over 50 kanals or 25292.9 sq m The farm is situated under a high density orchard, where we find our Rootstock worth Rs 10-12 lakh; Scion wood worth Rs 2-3 lakh; and other materials worth Rs 1-2 lakh. We source our irrigation from a nearby river and have installed a rainwater drip irrigation system purchased from Jain irrigation, Maharashtra. We employ 5 permanent laborers, who receive a salary of 13000-15000/month. We also hire 10-15 casual laborers, depending on work load, who earn a daily wage according to the season. [Audio] At Hi-Five Agro Skills, farmers perform all these activities by themselves and do not hire experts. They use rain drip irrigation to water the plants and rootstocks. Farmers apply basal doses of N,P,K in February. Weeding is done manually and mulch is used to conserve soil moisture. The farmers observed a high incidence of green aphid this year due to humid weather conditions. They used chemical control to manage the pests. Apart from these activities, the farmers at Hi-Five Agro Skills provide training and pruning services to growers of traditional orchards. They also offer these services to entrepreneurs who are interested in starting their own orchards.
