Solar energy is a renewable source of energy that is sustainable, clean, no emission, reliable and inexhaustible. There are two strategies to capture the sunlight from the sun which are active and passive solar technology.  Active solar energy is used to convert the solar energy to heat and electricity power with the use of active mechanical system.  Passive solar technology includes those ventilation, improve air circulation, orienting spaces and others.  Mainly practice on using windows, trees, building placement or other techniques to capture and deflect the sun for uses.

We had selected one case study which is Mont-Cenis Academy.  This building is integrated with photovoltaic technology to generate electricity from the sunlight and use it for heating and shade.  The windows of the buildings intensify the supply of daylight to the building.  It also provides shade for the hall and improves air circulation and orienting space for the building  .

Mont-Cenis Academy is the world's largest building integrated photovoltaic power plant with one megawatt peak output.  Glass microclimatic envelope is the core part of the arrangement; the buildings of the academy and the quarter centre are put in it.  The glass hall allows the atmosphere within to change to higher temperatures during the cold seasons relative to the climate outside .

POSSIBLE PROBLEMS TO THE SYSTEM If the solar racking portion is poorly connected, it will leak water into the building. Water penetration may cause rotting, moulding, damage to the longevity of the building, and ruin the underlying wood and structure when the waterproof barrier between the house and the outside is penetrated. These solar panels can cause severe disability in heavy winds when solar panels are improperly connected to the roof. If incorrectly placed, anchors may be pulled out of the building and provide a small entrance for moisture to enter, leading to mould growth and rotting problems. There are very light solar panels. During a severe  storm,  extreme snow will accumulate and add tonnes to the roofs

THE PROJECT MANAGEMENT PROCESS OF SOLAR PANEL

The aim of installation of solar panel in Mont-Cenis Academy is to manage future electrical cost and to protect the environment The installation of solar panel is very important because it effect the total sunlight received.  The decision to build the solar panel in the Mont-Cenis Academy was based on the client suggestion in order to build a building that  are environmental  friendly.

During this process, the project manager planning in dividing the work with his team, and he ensure that the objectives during this project were achieved and the budget and time management of this project are based on what he predicted. Below is the  summarisation  of the planning of the project manager during the construction of Mont Cenis Academy Objectives   Reduce  Pollution levels, leading to healthier environment  Creating  a reference mark on how urban developments can effectively integrate energy-friendly  initiatives Cost  saving on energy uses

Scope   Location  : Herne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany  This  building represent an architectural milestone in terms of protection of the  enviromental  and low energy consumption by using solar panel  Apply  photovoltaic system which they used  polycrytalline  and monocrystalline silicon types of solar panel Construction  1997-1999 Construction  cost 51,130,000 $ (euro)

Eventhough  the solar panel has been successfully install at the roof of Mont-Cenis Academy there some problems  occured  during installation of the solar panel which is the solar panel has interrupting the roof water flows and prevent proper drainage.

Scene 10

Because of the solar photovoltaic  system, the  Mont-Cenis Academy in Herne can certainly be regarded as a pioneering  achievement. The  photovoltaic system is integrated to the façade and roof of Mont-Cenis Academy.  The  roof with 10.000 m² solar panels does not only serve as a sunshade but also as a solar power plant and at 750,000 kWh p.a. generates more than double the building’s own consumption.

CHALLENGES FACED DURING PROJECT  EXECUTION

TEAMS’ MANAGEMENT - Many party involved  TI M E  - Project need extremely care in installing the structure of the building COST   - Solar energy project required big cost - Management of team can be difficult - Materials is expensive QUALITY OF THE MATERIAL & WORKMANSHIP  - Need to check material to ensure it if safe to be install - Worker do not focuses on their work and make mistakes
