The Relationship between Art, Politics and Religion

Artists are greatly affected by the world around them, when certain events occur these influence and inspire their art making. Without their surroundings, artworks would have little inspiration for making art.

Scene 3

Art contributes to politics in a variety of ways, including critical thoughts, aesthetics, guiding cultures, and maintaining peace and order. Art is spiritual and emotional; it does not need politics; on the other hand, all units in politics require art. Justice is maintained when art guides politics. Though the goal of politics appears to be human happiness, it is about subduing and producing works in accordance with a set of rules. It's hard to be flawless in art. As a result, by pursuing the artist, political minds will achieve perfection in the economy, education, and architecture.  Some of the most influential art is monumental, expressing its power through its size and permanence, implying a determination to represent the ruler's or state's strength and dominance. On the other hand, some art is impermanent, explosive, and used to provoke change or protest.

Scene 4

The Trajan’s Column is a monument that was erected in the 106/113 Ce by the Roman emperor Trajan. It’s located in Rome and its roughly 35 meters in height.  Originally the column stood in the middle of a courtyard surrounded by galleries from which one could view all the levels of the spiral bands covered with low-relief sculptured that forms a continuous narrative of the emperor’s two campaigns in Dacia. The bottom part of the column was initially used as a burial place for the emperor and his family, a spiral staircase is contained within the shaft’s interior, that lead to a platform that was used at some point to call people in for church.  Scholars think that the column was built as such because at the time, there was a nearby a library filled with scrolls, and that the designer was inspired by them.

Scene 5

The column was erected for two reasons, one was to commemorate the emperor Trajan and the other one was to show how powerful and the strong him and his empire was, the best way to show that was to visualize it, into a column.  It i s certain that the Column was not put in an ideal spot for visibility, it is impossible to reject the Column as some form of a glorification structure.

Scene 6

Religious paintings idealize, glorify, imply, and tell a religion's tale. They preserve religious practices and make it easier for people to envision an idea or occurrence that would otherwise be difficult to visualize with only words. They appeal to various people's minds and hearts and are effective in persuading nonbelievers to follow a specific religious belief or culture. Art, as a visible religion, uses iconography and representations of the human body to convey religious beliefs, rituals, and values. The reciprocity between image making and sense making as artistic communication of humanity with divinity is the fundamental concept for the interconnections between art and religion.

The Baptism of Christ is a painting made by the Italian Renaissance painter, Piero  della  Francesca.  The composition is centred on the figure od Christ being baptised in the River Jordan by John, the figure of the Baptist on the right. Above Christ is a dove, representin g the Holy Spirit, with the shape of its foreshortened wings resembling the clouds in the sky.  The original triptych frame may have included a roundel above the dove showing God the Father, which with Christ and the dove representing the Holy Spirit would complete the Holy trinity. The figure of Christ, John's hand and the bowl, and the bird, form an axis which divides the painting in two symmetrical parts.

In human history art has always been used as a way for the artist to express himself in a particular period. Ancient art was produced during the period  from the Palaeolithic period to the Middle Ages. Such art is commonly used as a historical archive. These artistic products of this time historic events and lifestyles of early human societies.  Ancient art focused mainly on the history and was influenced by cultures of its origin, religion and political climate.

Modern art evolved through  opposing, or abandoning the traditional ideas, subjects, and techniques of expression. It creates new perspectives and ideas about the world and art in general. Modern art is known to be more expressive and less formal than ancient art. Modern art includes Cubism, surrealism, pop art, impressionism, expressionism, art nouveau, art deco, cubism  and many other art movements.  In contrast, ancient art does not have art movements.

Scene 10

Art is not only important in politics and religion, but it surrounds life, all people in every location, without us being aware of it.  With the art that we are surrounded by, whether it's a painting, music, or even images, can have a significant effect on our mood and emotions.  Of course, some art is very dark and can elicit unpleasant feelings, such as rage or sadness, but we can choose what kind of art we want to be surrounded by in our own homes to make us feel happy.  Art can have a positive impact on our mood, making us feel happier, calmer, or even motivated to do something. Everywhere you look, there is art.
