Furthermore, they promote social justice and community cohesion by being the space for a variety of people to connect with their neighbors and establish relationships..

[Audio] The project we are undertaking is focused on delivering an inclusive and self-sufficient environment to our community. Our goal is to create a space that offers a variety of services and activities to meet the current needs of the people. To achieve this, we will be looking at the current state of several community centres from Delhi. Our research shows that across these centres, the present use is distributed as Retail at 61.2%, Entertainment at 15.3%, Office at 9.2%, Social Infrastructure at 8.2% and Hotel at 6.1%. We also studied the Saket Anupam Complex, Preet Vihar Community Center and New Friends Colony Community Center, with the present use being Office at 37.3%, Community at 30.5%, Retail at 16.9%, Entertainment at 15.3%, Retail at 59.3%, Entertainment at 17.3%, Office at 12.3% and Community at 11.1%. We believe that through our project we can deliver a better adapted environment that meets all the needs of our community..

PRESENT STATE OF COMMUNITY CENTRES IN DELHI

The DDA (Delhi Development Authority) has developed 11 district centres and 44 community
canters across the city. Although. Most of the community canters were designed in the 80s and
90s. Since then, there has been a shift in vehicular and pedestrian loads due to an increase in
population and densification. The existing community centres, on the other hand, have not been
upgraded according to the current needs

By creating infrastructure and facilities such as residential, commercial, green public spaces, and educational and lifestyle services, this project aims to provide a healthy, vibrant, and equitable community, furthering the general well-being of the neighbourhood. This will also add to the aesthetic character of the area, giving it a distinctive identity. From providing a wide range of services and amenities, to encouraging activities like gardening, theatre, and music, this project will make sure that all members of the community benefit and live an enriched and improved lifestyle. The pie charts show the programmatic division for three of DDA's existing community centres
- the Saket Anupam Complex. Preet Vihar Community Centre. and New Friends Colony
Community Centre. As can be seen, a major component of these community centres is
commercial, i.e., retail and offices. This emphasis on the retail typology besides attracting a
lot of footfall also leads to the commercialisation of the

The community centre. There are hardly any community-based facilities for the empowerment
and benefit of the people living there. Most of the functions are usually designed keeping in
mind the higher-income

[Audio] Thank you for your attention. The aim of this project is to create an environment that is both inclusive and self-sufficient, allowing community development to thrive. To do this, we need to consider the relationship between two different interface domains—street-plot interfaces and urban interfaces. The street-plot interface focuses on the front yard and building entry areas, as well as how the ground floor and sidewalk can be used to invigorate street life. As for the urban interface, it is the space between architectural forms and public spaces that facilitates the dialogue between private and public realms. In total, there are a variety of types of urban interfaces like front yards, verandas, porches, raised entrances and stairs. All of these physical components are important to take into consideration when designing an environment that enables community development..

Street-plot interface: (Public-Common Interface in an Urban Block)

In relation to two different interface domains, street-plot interfaces may be investigated:
first, frontyard and building entry; second, use of the ground floor and sidewalk to promote
street liveliness.
The front yard, front yard, veranda, porches, raised entrances and stairs can be identified
as architectural components (Barlas, 2006)

Urban interfaces are the transition areas between architectural forms and urban public
spaces that offer visual and practical inside-out ties between public open spaces and
private closed spaces and define the way we read the urban fabric (Orhan, 2018).

[Audio] The purpose of this project is to create an inclusive and self-sufficient environment for community development. The design focuses on two fundamental interface domains, namely the street-building interface and the plot-building interface. The street-building interface enables a distinction between public and private spaces through the use of architectural elements such as recesses, balconies, windows, porticos, arcades, bay windows and cumbias or oriels. The plot-building interface creates a distinction between common and private spaces in the same urban block. With this design, it is hoped that a comfortable and stimulating environment for the entire community is achieved..

Two interface domains are defined in this style of interface: as facades of construction and
setbacks of construction: and active frontage and street edges. Architectural elements
such as recessed or hanging balconies, different styles of windows, porticos or arcades
that define the edge of the house, and bay windows. cumbias or oriels may be categorized
as architectural elements that provide a street-building interface or public and private
spaces (Songulen. 2012).

The front and backyard are the anatomical components that offer such a distinction
(Songulen ,2012).

STREET-BUILDING INTERFACE: (PUBLIC-PRIVATE INTERFACE IN AN URBAN BLOCK)

PLOT-BUILDING INTERFACE: (COMMON-PRIVATE INTERFACE IN AN URBAN BLOCK)

[Audio] Our project aims to design an environment that is both sustainable and inclusive for community development. We are working to create a public space network that meets the requirements of the urban population, offering both employment opportunities as well as recreational activities. Additionally, we are paying close attention to the geometric relationships between buildings in a city block, the building mass and height, and the public-private interface. We are determined to craft a comprehensive design that regards the needs of all citizens, thus providing an equitable urban environment for those involved..

The accelerated development of urban populations has increased the need for communities
to provide provisions for healthy and creative ways of life. employment and recreational
activities. The key is to provide a public space network of adequate breadth and
consistency in terms of urban planning in cities (Grobelsek, 2018).

First in order to examine the relationships and interfaces between buildings, it is necessary
to determine the architectural specifications of individual buildings. The architectural style
refers largely to the mass and height of the buildings (Songlen, 2012).

BUILDING-BUILDING INTERFACE: (PRIVATE-PRIVATE INTERFACE IN AN URBAN BLOCK)

[Audio] Our goal is to design an environment that is both inclusive and self-sufficient for community development. To ensure this, we must assess the walkability scores and local street interconnectivity of the intended site to guarantee accessibility for all forms of transportation--pedestrians, bikers, and those utilizing public transportation. Doing so is vital in creating a space that is truly tailored to become both self-sufficient and inclusive..

Before individuals even arrive at a place, there are multiple factors that can
deter accessibility. Is there sufficient lighting in the surrounding
environment? Are nearby sidewalks well-maintained? In Manila. the capital
city of the Philippines, it can take residents hours to reach central public
spaces due to congested roadways.

Although this is an extreme case, the fact remains that periphery
accessibility is crucial. By assessing walkability scores and local street
interconnectivity. Planners can ensure that their intended sites are equally
accessible for pedestrians, bikers, and those taking public transportation.

[Audio] The goal of this project is to create an inclusive and self-sufficient environment that can empower the local community. To achieve this, we seek to improve accessibility for all users regardless of their abilities and create more opportunities for local businesses and events. By utilizing knowledge from sources like the American Disability Act, Safe Routes to Schools, and the American Association of Retired Persons, we can make sure the space is usable for everyone. Additionally, we will provide space for small business owners to set up shop and further promote investment within the community. We will also include stages for events like plays and speeches, to give residents the chance to showcase their talents. By creating a self-sufficient and accessible space, we can help build a lasting and vibrant community." This project aims to create an environment that encourages and supports community development. We want to create an accessible space that is welcoming to all and provide local entrepreneurs with the opportunity to set up their businesses. We want to go beyond the requirements of the American Disability Act and draw on knowledge from other sources like Safe Routes to Schools and the American Association of Retired Persons. We also plan to include features such as stages that can host community events, such as plays and speeches. By improving accessibility and offering more opportunities, we can empower the local community and create a lasting, vibrant environment..

Whether a user is disabled or elderly. an inclusive space takes extra measures to
comfortably accommodate them. This onsite-accessibility can be accomplished by not
just adhering to the American Disability Act's minimum requirements, but by also
drawing from other sources like Safe Routes to Schools and the American Association
of Retired Persons. By combining features like tactile strips at crosswalks, accessible
restrooms, and parking spaces. and color contrast applications on poles and steps,
public space can ensure ease of use for all.

To increase community involvement, public spaces can offer opportunities for
underrepresented vendors. In Minnesota, for instance, Union Market provides small-scale
sites for local business owners. With some as small as 100 square feet. these spaces allow
entrepreneurs to build a customer base with less risk and financial burden. Of course. retail
shouldn't be the sole focus of any space. nor is it the only way to build investment within
residents. Another way the latter can be done is by including features like stages on which
the community can host its own events, like plays and speeches

[Audio] We are proposing a project that designs an environment that is both inclusive and self-sufficient. With an emphasis on economic solidarity, this environment will give access to services and resources that are not available to a large section of the population. This kind of space provides people without a physical location the chance to sell their goods and services with less financial burden and risk. We also understand that only promoting retail activities can limit the public's access to the space, so we plan to create an environment that is multifunctional and open to everyone, offering support to communities that are disadvantaged..

Public spaces that provide opportunities for underrepresented vendors can attract a
broader audience, and play a part in redistributing economic opportunities to people who
may not otherwise have access to a physical location to sell their products or services.
Places like Union Market in Mankato. Minnesota provides small-scale spaces (some as small
as 100 square feet), providing owners of small or fledgling businesses a chance
to build up their customer base with less risk and financial burden than opening a full
storefront elsewhere.

However, retail must never be the sole purpose of the space—a balanced combination of
retail and non-retail
uses can ensure that the space never crowds out users who simply want to use the space
without being a customer.

[Audio] Our project intends to establish a self-sufficient and all-embracing atmosphere for the overall public. Architecture bestows us the chance to make a long-lasting effect past the structure itself. Structures, sketched out prudently with the atmosphere in sight, can sparkle financial growth, bolster nearby communities, and link people from numerous backgrounds. With measured consideration of the social and ecological framework, and how the structure works, we can initiate positive ripples that will continue for years to come. Let's reflect on the larger scheme, and use architecture to really effect the world..

At the most fundamental, the designed
buildings provide shelter, and at best. some
enriching experiences & improved lifestyles.
But the effect of architecture both on
individuals and wider society is far and broader
than that for buildings having ripple effect
beyond their walls, their immediate site, and
the people who use them every day. Buildings
take years to design and build and are around
for decades, sometimes, centuries. So, the
impact that the buildings have on the world
around them matters as the effect can go on
for a very long time.

In thinking deeply about the wider impact that
architecture has both locally and globally. it
concludes that architecture is deeply contextual:
an architecture that responds both to its social
and environmental context as much as its
historical and physical one. If we're designing for
the ripple effect consciously. we're not only
benefitting the individuals but we're supporting
the community at large.
 So, when these ideas become intrinsic to the
design process and think about the big picture, we
can create buildings that do extraordinary things.
Buildings that strengthen the local community and
connect people. Buildings that support the local
economy both in how they are built and how they
function. So. when we design to maximize the
positive - social, economic and environmental
factors become the ripples of architecture. Our
buildings can do much - let's make them do more

Our initiative is to empower women folk in the vicinity of Amazon Fulfillment Centres in India, by providing them with avenues to earn a living and hone their skills through our Community Centres. This will in turn, bring a long lasting positive impact on the generations that follow." The goal of our project is to create an environment of inclusion and self-sufficiency for the community. We are creating a platform for women living near our Amazon Fulfillment Centres in India, to hone their skills and earn a living. We believe that empowering women can have a lasting positive impact in the generations to come and that is our goal. Through our Community Centres, we are providing them with access to basic skills like computers, sewing, and digital education aids like LCD screens, DVD players, and e-content. We want to foster a culture of learning and create an environment where these women can thrive and flourish..

In several communities in the vicinity of Amazon Fulfillment Centres in India. women folk
continue to be relegated to household chores. with almost no avenue to earn a livelihood
and learn skills. But things are slowly starting to change. They say that when a woman is
educated and empowered, it causes a ripple effect on the the generation that follows. We
see this in action every single day at Amazon Community Centres around the country
(Empowering women entrepreneurs, no date).

Amazon India has built Community Centres near its Fulfillment Centres around the country.
Usually on the outskirts of metros. these centres are platforms for anyone from the
community to come together, learn basic skills like computers, sewing. access the Internet
and other digital education aids like LCD screens, DVD players, and e-content.

[Audio] Our project focuses on creating an environment that is inclusive to all, with a particular emphasis on meeting the needs of the local population. We intend to implement the theories of William H. Whyte with regards to public spaces, creating a shared space that is both accessible and enjoyable. It is our goal to bring people together in a secure and stimulating setting, allowing for conversations, connections, and communal activities. We strive to create a place where individuals can grow, explore, and express themselves while at the same time offering a safe and welcoming atmosphere. These are the core values at the heart of our aim to create an environment that is inclusive, self-sufficient, and conducive to community development..

The promise of public spaces can be best addressed through the creation of “the social
life of small urban functions and functions” To help revive activity in these centers it
is important to provide multiple facilities- that adhere to the needs of the community
and users specific To the region. But at the same time, these spaces must be designed
as common grounds with an intent to be used and experienced by everyone becoming
truly public and democratic. Introduced by William H. (Holly) Whyte (1917-1999) is the
mentor of Project for Public Spaces because of his seminal work in the study of human
behavior in urban settings.

The Social Life of Public Spaces. Whyte wrote that social life in public spaces
contributes fundamentally to the quality of life of individuals and society as a whole.
He believed that we have a moral responsibility to create physical places that
facilitate civic engagement and community
interaction.

[Audio] Our project is located in the Lodhi Institutional Area, a district renowned for its striking architecture. It is also conveniently located near the lush and historically significant Lodhi Gardens. This project is designed to facilitate community development in an inclusive and self-sustaining environment. It will feature a learning center, an event and performance space, and an in-house gallery. These components will offer an interesting and inviting atmosphere for people to interact and exchange knowledge. In addition, the design plan includes preserving two large Peepal trees on the construction site, thus creating a harmonious balance between the building and its natural environment. Our aim is to provide a space that encourages and empowers community members to come together and progress..

The location played a key role in dictating the design of the building. Placed in the middle
of the Lodhi institutional Area – which had seen the works of J. A Stein in the form of
WWF india, UNICEF building, IHC and IIC – there was a very strong visual and distinct
architectural presence.

Besides built character, the proximity to the lush and historic lodhi gardens was another
key driver of the design.

Eventhrough performing space and gallery is a common feature of buildings all around,
the center is still able to stand out due to its learning center. This becomes the crowd
puller and thus , a more popular location to host events aswell.
Lastly, the site had two huge Peepal trees present on it. In an effort to save them, the
form was deviced aroundthem.

[Audio] The project aims to establish a convenient and self-supporting area, called "chabutras" or "chowks" in India, as a meeting center for different groups. Such places provide an opportunity for people to collaborate, exchange opinions and construct a shared understanding without any prejudice or compulsory commitments. These areas of social contact can encourage individuals and communities to develop a stronger sense of connectedness and mutual comprehension..

Often referred to as a “home away from home”, the concept revolves around the idea that
communities need a common neutral ground to assemble, interact, and socialize. It is a
space that becomes a stage for expressing one’s concerns, emotions, views, and opinion
These space concepts are not unknown in India. Indeed they are often integral parts of the
vernacular architecture of many regions of the country.

Examples of these spaces include: “chabutras” or “chowks” – plazas often centered
around trees and intersecting chakras are Indian streets

People are free to move around whenever they desire and do whatever suits them. It is a
space in which visitors have no obligation – and therefore can drop in and out according to
their convivence. It is thus essential that these spaces are easily accessible and located
in a manner that does not require any extra effort from the users. They are places where
everybody is equally welcomed and encouraged to interact and meander in a formal
setting.

[Audio] This project is designed to create an environment that is both inclusive and self-sustaining in order to foster community development. Three tiers are proposed: programmatic, site, and building. The programmatic level is planned to be active and vibrant by providing a socio-cultural complex, with programming and activities tailored to users. The site level is to include open, free and accessible public realm, incorporating stilted open spaces for activities. The building level involves an attractive and integrated reinterpretation of a library, featuring an atrium to serve as an integrated facility with visual connections and bright, open, flexible spaces, as well as a courtyard for visual connections, wind flow and microclimates. The design includes multipurpose, flexible column-free spaces, engagements and common spaces, a biophilic building, interconnected spaces, split levels, a North-oriented orientation to avoid glare, and appropriate interpretation of atriums and courtyards with open green spaces..

The street-plot interface focuses on the front yard and building entry areas, as well as how the ground floor and sidewalk can be used to invigorate street life

As for the urban interface, it is the space between architectural forms and public spaces that facilitates the dialogue between private and public realms

In total, there are a variety of types of urban interfaces like front yards, verandas, porches, raised entrances and stairs

All of these physical components are important to take into consideration when designing an environment that enables community development.

The site level is to include open, free and accessible public realm, incorporating stilted open spaces for activities

The building level involves an attractive and integrated reinterpretation of a library, featuring an atrium to serve as an integrated facility with visual connections and bright, open, flexible spaces, as well as a courtyard for visual connections, wind flow and microclimates

The design includes multipurpose, flexible column-free spaces, engagements and common spaces, a biophilic building, interconnected spaces, split levels, a North-oriented orientation to avoid glare, and appropriate interpretation of atriums and courtyards with open green spaces.
