Global studies conclude foil sustainability. Does foiled substrate biodegrade in landfills? YES. Various substrates studied with different foils: After 12 weeks, all samples were completely broken down. Foil had no apparent effect on the rate of biodegradation. Does foil affect recyclability and repulpability? NO. Foil + ink present in samples is successfully removed by standard flotation de-inking process. No troublesome tacky particles remain once paper re-pulped. Similar studies are being conducted globally with the same conclusions, more to come..
