Be particularly alert for the following fire hazards

look for evidence of smoking in “no smoking” areas.  If you find any, report it. Look for oily rags, which are not stored in covered metal containers. Make sure that all heaters are working properly. Check to see that all appliances, which create heat, are turned off. Look for flammable materials near heating units or heat –producing equipment.  If you find any, move them and report this. Make sure that all cans of gasoline, paint, alcohol, etc., are tightly covered and stored away from any source of heat.

Scene 3

A few years ago, one of the leading companies put together a list of 45 things, which their security guards should look for then on patrol.  Each of these things was so serious that it was as deadly as a loaded .45 caliber weapon.  Take this list with you when you go on patrol and look for these things. If you see any of them, make a note and report it.  Each of these things could cause a serious loss of your client/company.  Use this list often enough to become familiar with all 45 of these security hazards.

Scene 4

Slippery floors, driveways, pavement of stairways. Obstructed driveways. Broken  walls . Wet floors. Improperly lighted stairways. Loose planking or boards on stairways or steps. Loose balcony railing. Broken doors and windows. Evacuating routes not clearly designated or marked. Blocked fire fighting equipment and fire escapes. Lights not operating at fire alarm boxes and exits. Accumulations of rags, paper, boxes. Defective wiring, worn insulation or bare wires exposed. Wiring lying on the floor, especially on a wet floor. Defective switches, especially those that may shock the operator, or those which make sparks when they are thrown. This may cause a fire or explosion.

Scene 5

Combustible dust, which has accumulated and may cause spontaneous combustion. Open cans of gasoline or other inflammable material. Burning rubbish. Fumes caused by acid, gas or smoke. Defective exhaust fans. Gas leaks. Leaky pipes. Acetylene or oxygen tanks left turned on when not in use. Employees dragging acetylene torch hose too close to a fire, or endangering the hose in a way that it could be cut or broken. Dangerous pressure in air compressor tanks, caused by a safety valve becoming ineffective or inoperative. Defective elevators. Worn ropes and cables. Ladders in a broken or poor and unsafe condition. Unguarded scaffolds. Insecure suspended object which may fail
