[Audio] Hi everybody, now let us bring you through our second solution on the issue regarding role play..
[Audio] The objective of role play is to let the student in the class to have the opportunity to learn, improve or develop the skills or competencies necessary for a specific position; which in our case is the interviewer, who will be conducting the survey with the interviewee to gather the required data for analysis purpose..
[Audio] The function of the role play is firstly to accelerates the student's understanding of the learning materials. Secondly, to give opportunities for learners to apply knowledge in contexts and receive the consequences of the actions in a safe environment. Last but not least, to act out and make sense of real-life situations through exploration and experiment..
[Audio] As shared by the trainer, herewith are the samples of the questionnaire in the class for the role play session. The setting are for a household or an establishment. These are the two entities that the student will encounter during their interview when they are out in the field. The purpose of the role play, in the course, is to impart or enhance the needed skill sets of the student so that they could tactfully gather the data required..
[Audio] Per the trainer, after each course, a survey is conducted to get feedback from the student. With the recent survey data shared by the trainer and the usual analysis done by the company (using manual tabulation and excel file) not much insight was gained. Putting on the hat of growth mindset, our group suggested to Oliver to utilize his company analytical software to analyze the survey data hopefully to gain some new perspective. After a few runs, the AI software did open up a new horizon and role play was brought under the spotlight. Two main points on role play were been illuminated..
[Audio] The first point under the spot light was that in the current practice, both the role of the interviewer and interviewee are played out by the student, who are usually not well prepared. It was also highlighted that the trainer is at the side observing the session and of course sharing his comments after the session..
[Audio] The feedback on this was that the role play interaction is usually not up to expectation, have frequent break-down and as such, was not smooth sailing..
[Audio] The second point surfaced by the AI software was that the role play was immediately conducted after the related lesson; which interesting, per our expectation should be the right way..
[Audio] The feedback was that student was most of the time reading the script in the material by hard and just verbalizing it for the sake of the role play session..
[Audio] With these two points highlighted, it was brought to the attention of the trainer for discussion. The trainer pondered on it and somewhat agreed with the insight shared by the AI software. With this backdrop, the next action was to come up with the suitable solutions and that started our brains ……STORMING!!!!.
[Audio] After much discussion, on the first point that the role play was played out only by the student, our group gave an unusual proposal, the student will continue to play the role of the interviewer, but for the role of the interviewee, it was suggested to the trainer to take it up..
[Audio] The rationale behind is that the trainer, as the interviewee can lead or direct the student, who is the interviewer, to have a sense of the real-life situation expected and also to have a smoother play out. The trainer was initially not very uncomfortable with the suggestion but after much persuasion and convincing, he is willing to move from his comfort zone and give it a try!.
[Audio] As to the second point, with regards to the role play been immediately executed after the related lesson, our group thought of the idea for the " model answer" to be act out instead of just been indicated in the learning material. As such, it was suggested to the trainer to have a short video done up so that the student can watch the "model answer" and also be given adequate time to digest it before the execution of the role play..
[Audio] The rational behind is to enable the student visually watched the " model answer", be given sufficient time to internalize it and able to act it out during the role play session confidently. The trainer welcomed the proposal and strongly believed it will definitely enhance the effectiveness of the role play session..
[Audio] In summary, wearing the cap of growth mindset, our group utilized AI technology to gain new insights to the issues and was able to bring out TWO key points regarding the role play session in order to enhance the learning experience of the student. Due to the lack of beauty of time, the proposal was not able to be implemented but the trainer is looking forward to have them executed and share the outcome with us..
