[Audio] Good day everyone! I'm Dr. Nik Narimah, and I'm here to talk about my GDT 218 Communication Design course. In this class, we'll explore the synthesis between creativity and communication; so through creative expression, you will learn how to effectively communicate with others and articulate your ideas effectively. We'll also introduce you to the fundamentals of graphic design, so you can gain the skills and knowledge needed to create meaningful visual conversation. I'm excited to share this course with you, and I'm looking forward to meeting you all this semester..
[Audio] My name is Dr. Nik Narimah from UiTM Melaka's College of Creative Arts and I will be teaching the GDT 218 Communication Design course. We’re going to explore the topic of graphic design process, looking at the stages involved in the process from concept creation to developing and presenting the final design. We’ll also discuss the importance of research, drawing on a variety of industry sources to ensure our designs are effective and relevant. Let's get started..
[Audio] Creative design is a complex process that requires a structured approach and has a multitude of steps, each with its own intricate details. Understanding each step is essential in order to create original and effective design works. This presentation will focus on the second sub-topic, the stages in the creative design process, and discuss each step in detail..
[Audio] Without greetings, without beginning with 'Today', and without thanks: My name is Dr. Nik Narimah from UiTM Melaka's College of Creative Arts, and I'm here to talk to you about Communication Design and the creative design process. To start off, I will walk you through the steps of the creative design process. We will look at slides 19 to 28, then move onto the process of developing sketches from 29 to 37. I'm sure this will be a very informative presentation and I'm here to answer any queries or questions you may have. Let us begin..
[Audio] Introducing my GDT 218 Communication Design course, which is rooted in an eight step creative design process: study and gather information, develop ideas and concepts, visualize and refine ideas, develop sketches and illustrations, refine illustrations, work in colour and finish, presentation and evaluation. Through this process, students will master the fundamentals of communication design, develop creative problem-solving skills, understand visual thinking concepts, and explore a variety of design techniques. This course will assist students in becoming strategic and innovative thinkers in the field of communication design..
[Audio] As a teacher I am introducing the GDT 218 Communication Design Course. Creative design is an important skill to master in the context of academia. In this course, I will be guiding my students in mastering the 5 steps of the creative design process to help them produce successful academic projects. The first step is to define the goals of the project and decide what design should convey or achieve. Having the correct goal in mind will help direct and shape the design possibilities. It is also important to be clear on the target audience and what message the design should communicate. This is the foundation of creative design and the starting point for any successful design..
[Audio] In order to develop a successful communication design project, students must first take the time to conduct an extensive study on the relevant topic. They should explore all possible resources including books, magazines, websites, and interviews to gather information and data that will help to inform and inspire their designs. These references should be noted and documented so students can refer back to them for further exploration, refinement, and evaluation..
[Audio] In this slide, I am referring to the development of ideation and concepts for the study conducted. Research and investigate different graphic representations of the academic message or theme and explore different alternatives. Brainstorm ideas and create drafts. This is essential to create a communication design that is effective and impactful..
[Audio] Focusing on the fourth point made in the presentation — “Visualize and Sketch” – it is important for designers to have a visual representation of their design elements. Experimenting with different arrangements and visual structures will help to find the most effective representation of scientific content. Images, sketches, and drawings can serve as visual aids to explain design concepts and ideas, assisting both the presenter and the audience in understanding the key points in the presentation..
[Audio] Slide number 10 is about digital design. It is possible to bring our ideas to life with the help of graphics software. When designing, one should experiment with different font, colour schemes, photography, and other visual components. As an example, a link has been provided to demonstrate how to design a poster on a laptop..
[Audio] Seeking feedback and advice from other sources is essential to ensure that the design is consistent with academic goals and produces the best possible outcome of the project. Listening to opinions and constructive criticism of peers, industry professionals, or academic advisors and making changes to the design based on the feedback received is key to having a successful outcome..
[Audio] With the design finished, it is time to refine and complete it. Be sure to take into account all feedback from users from the design phase and adjust the design accordingly. Carefully look into all the specifics and make sure the design conveys its exploration and learning intention. Produce high resolution files and adapt them to the desired medium, such as print, presentation, or digital form, to finish the project..
[Audio] For this presentation, I will be discussing the GDT 218 Communication Design course. Students in this course will partake in a design process, including research, planning, creating and presenting. When presenting the finished product, students should assess how the design conveys the meant message and consider feedback from the audience or fellow students as they move forward. This guarantees the design successfully expresses the desired message..
[Audio] Having a clear understanding of the academic goals and topic is key when it comes to the academic design process. Adapting the creative design process to the academic environment can result in powerful designs that can display academic ideas and research findings effectively..
[Audio] After researching and brainstorming, we move on to the sketching process. It is important to understand the principles of sketching and its importance for developing our own innovative ideas for creative design solutions. This will help in the further development of the sketching process..
[Audio] Good morning everyone. As you may have seen on the last slide, research and brainstorming are essential parts of the sketching process. As designers, it's important to be able to access reliable resources both printed and digital to gather as much information as possible before jumping into sketching. Once that information has been collected, brainstorming can be a great way to break down the design and come up with an actionable plan. This will help to ensure that the sketches created serve their purpose. Remember, research and brainstorming are an integral part of the sketching process..
[Audio] Good morning everyone. As part of my GDT 218 Communication Design course, I would like to discuss the phases of the design process, which are commonly used in a variety of creative fields. We have the thumbnail phase, the semi-comprehensive phase, and the comprehensive phase. The thumbnail phase is the initial phase where the designer uses small-format sketches as a basis to explore and develop ideas. This phase emphasizes compositional choices, visual components, and layouts, and typically contains no information. Thumbnails are rough drafts, and are great starting points to explore ideas. Thank you for listening..
[Audio] In GDT 218 Communication Design course, the semi-comprehensive sketch is emphasized as a critical part of the design process. This sketch allows us to verify our design decisions, invite feedback, and refine our ideas by further developing the design prior to the comprehensive finished product. This process minimizes potential errors, misinterpretations, or adjustments and provides us with the assurance needed to continue with the project. It is clear that the semi-comprehensive sketch is indispensable when it comes to the design process..
[Audio] We develop the refined designs from the previous step into very detailed renderings using both traditional media and digital tools. Colors, typography, textures, and other intricate details are included to further refine the visual elements, enabling us to craft a more powerful and meaningful design that is aesthetically pleasing..
[Audio] Once a comprehensive design is created, the next step is to digitize it. Designers use design software or tools to convert the design into a digital format, taking into account accurate dimensions, colors, digital layers and other features which make the design suitable for different digital platforms and media. Additionally, vectorizing the design and customizing it for different digital media may also be necessary..
[Audio] Idea conception and sketching are the starting points of the design process I use in my GDT 218 Communication Design course. This is followed by the semi-comprehensive stage, which requires refinement of the design and development of a clearer idea for the final product. Subsequently, comprehensive stage further refines the design to make it attractive. Finally, the digitization stage produces the digital design. This process is a cycle of feedback and review in each step with the possibility of going back to earlier stages in order to improve the design based on the responses. By using this process, designers can progress their ideas from rudimentary sketches to the ultimate digital design..
[Audio] Understanding the brief, ideation, development, feedback, revision and completion are all core principles that are often followed to produce quality graphics. The method may need to be adapted depending on the client's preferences or the designer's individual workflow, but using a structured design process allows designers to approach their work in a methodical and effective manner..
