The conventional solution of fat traps has proven to be ineffective.  Considerable amounts of Fats, Oils and Grease continue to seep into the municipal infrastructure systems. Another problem is that the FOG quickly becomes rancid, making this Brown Grease un-useable for bio diesel production by very few Bio Diesel producers and none in South Africa.

Kulu  Tech has an exclusive licence for Sub-Saharan Africa for the patented Eco  Ceptor  technology. The technology separates Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) from grease trap waste (aka Brown Grease) which is collected from the 85,000 Food Service Establishments (FSE’s) which exist in South Africa.  Each of our FOG Waste Processing Hubs are able to divert >400,000  liters  of Grease Trap Waste from landfill every month.  By processing Grease Trap Waste at localised Hubs we are able to reduce logistic costs for grease trap cleaners who will be able to clean their FSE traps more regularly, cleaning more sites and reducing the levels of FOG entering Municipal Waste Water Networks and Inlet Treatment Works

The Stellenbosch Facility   The Stellenbosch facility will have a capacity to process 400,000 litres of fat trap waste per month: The plant is able to harvest in excess of 40,000 litres of FOG per month for biodiesel production The wastewater will be pumped, after microbial treatment, directly into the WWTW The unit will be fully containerized, meaning the plants are modular and scalable. Allowing for ease of installation and also allowing for the units to be moveable.

Primary processing , we screen the waste received from the Grease Trap Cleaners Trucks to separate the organic solids. We then then pump the FOG and water into a large storage tank.  Secondary processing , We pump the surface layer of FOG and water within the storage tank, using a patented floating head, through a  containerised  Eco  Ceptor  plant. Once inside the Eco  Ceptor  plant the solids and FOG are separated using multiple weirs within the system as well as heat. The residual solids are separated and contained within the 1 st  chambers of the Eco  Ceptor . The separated FOG is contained in the 2 nd  Chamber, ready for skimming and offloading for collection and sale.  Tertiary processing , The remaining warm water then passes through the 3 rd  and 4 th  chambers where additional screening, microbial and UV treatment can be added before it is reintroduced into the primary collection sump. The residual warmed water is then used to flush solids away from the floating heads solids screen and further breakup the surface layer which then collects more surface FOG in the storage tank and is thus recycled through the system.  Post processing , Excess water from the operation flows into a secondary storage tank. In this tank we treat the effluent water with microbes to reduce the Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) by as much as 80% before release into the treatment works.
