Introduction
 Dietitians are responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating dietary and nutritional problems in individuals and wider populations (BDA.,2019).
 The role of dietitians is essential and is becoming increasingly important as the prevalence of chronic illness, malnutrition, and NCDs increases (Spiker et al.,2020).
 Finding the information history related to the dietetic profession in Sri Lanka is challenging due to limited reliable sources.
 This study is essential for understanding their contribution to healthcare, assessing their effectiveness, and identifying areas for improvement.

Objectives    
 To identify the historical development of dietetics as a profession in Sri Lanka
 To assess the current status of dietetics practice in Sri Lanka
 To identify responsibilities and challenges faced by dietitians in their professional practice
 To identify the suggestions to overcome the challenges To assess the future opportunities of Sri Lankan Dietitians

Methodology  Study Design: Cross-sectional study design 
 Both qualitative and quantitative methods will be used to analyze the data.
 The research study will be conducted in three phases: (i) literature review using available resource materials, (ii)conduct face-to-face interviews with Senior dietitians and key stakeholders in the field of human nutrition and dietetics ,(iii) collect information from senior dietitians through Google questionnaire. 
Qualitative data from face-to-face interviews and Quantitative data from an online questionnaire hosted on Google 
 Study sample: Senior dietitians and key stakeholders in the field of human nutrition and dietetics from higher education institutes, the Ministry of Health, and the Sri Lanka Medical Council 
Data Analysis: SPSS software, N vivo software and MS Excel (2019) will be used to analyze the data and produce descriptive statistics 

Ethics: Ethical approvals from the Ethics review committee of Wayamba University in Sri Lanka

Expected Outcomes A Comprehensive understanding of the evolution of dietitians in Sri Lanka. 
 Identify the nature of current dietetic practices in Sri Lanka.
  Identify the current challenges of dietetic practices in Sri Lanka.
 Suggestions for the expansion of the dietetic service / practice in Sri Lanka.
