Golden Owhonda is a Consultant Public Health Physician and infectious disease control specialist. He graduated in 1995 as a medical doctor from the University of Port Harcourt Medical School and obtained a postgraduate qualification in Public Health in 2010 as a fellow of the West African College (sub-speciality - Primary Health Care services) with core competency in infectious disease control and Strategic health interventions. He is also a fellow of the elite Royal Society of Public Health in the UK. He had served in the state civil service in various capacities as a medical officer, Program Manager, administrator and Director across the Boards and in the Rivers State Ministry of Health. Before his sojourn in the university, he served as the Coordinator of the State AIDS/STI Control Programme where he set up a responsive HIV Control Program to fight back the HIV epidemic and in 2016, was appointed as the Director of Public Health Services, in Rivers State..

Dr. Golden is a subject matter expert and consultant to some Projects in Nigeria especially on HIV service delivery, research and global health concerns. He had served as a one-time President of the prestigious National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria and a member of various national committees and public health professional associations. As a teacher, he is engaged as an Associate Professor of Public Medicine at the College of Medicine, Rivers State University, Part-time lecturer at ACE PUTOR, University of Port Harcourt, and a Proctor at the Community Medicine Dept of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria..
