Indicators of Development

Definition- Indicators of development refer to the yardstick , by the help of which the development is tried to be measured.   Explanation- Indicators of development help to find out the progress of a country as the development of a community and a nation is observed in terms of the level of satisfaction of the people of the community and country are having. It is only attend after the fulfillment of basic as well as additional need of the individual. The fulfillment of human needs is truly determined by the availability of services, good economic condition, balanced development and many more.

Development indicators show the progress that has been made in a particular area. According to UNDP there are three essentials of development which include the ability to lead a long and healthy life, to acquire knowledge and to have a decent standard of development . Happiness- Happiness is the state of feeling or showing pleasure or contentment. Happiness is also said to be a way to have positive attitude towards life. Happiness is finding reasons behind our existence. The extent of happiness cannot be measured by any scale. It is one of the major important indicator of development. Happiness is generally obtained after the fulfillment of the needs of an individual, but it does not remain the same. It means the need and desire are unlimited, a person despite of being poor can feel contented and remain happy, whereas a rich person having all the needs fulfilled may not be happy. Any ways self-satisfaction is the key to happiness.

Happiness- At present the development of the nation is tried to measure in terms of (HPI) Happy Planet Index, which is a very new approach to measure development and to measure the degree of happiness as well. From 2006 AD HPI has been published by New Economic Foundation. HPI is the leading global measure of sustainable well-being. As a new measure of human progress, it measures that matters like: the extent to which countries distribute long, happy and sustainable lives for the people that live in. Nepal is at the rank 92 as HPI for the year 2019 and at the rank 87 as HPI for the year 2021.

Economic wellbeing- Economic well-being  is defined As having present and future Financial security. In this aspect, the income of consumer, average income, expenditures and per capita income are considered for measuring of economical wellbeing. Economic well-being may be achieved by individuals, families, and communities through public policies that ensure the ability to build financial knowledge and skills, access to safe and affordable financial products and economic resources, and opportunities for generating income and asset-building. When the condition of economic will rise up then every individual can earn money and they can increase the income which will assist to increase the per capital income of a country. The money which is earned by the whole country will help to lead development in the country by which again people can fulfill their need and demand and remain happy too.

Environmental wellbeing- Environmental wellbeing is having good health by occupying pleasant, stimulating environments that support our health condition. The state of air, water, soil and sound pollution are considered for measuring of environmental wellbeing. The environment is the place where we can find both good and bad things or commodity. If there is environmental progress or environmental wellbeing, then the resources for the construction for development can be easily available that can lead to development and fulfillment of needs and demands of an individual as well that can lead to happy life too. Improving environmental wellness is simple and results in a more balanced lifestyle.

Physical wellbeing- Physical wellbeing is the ability to maintain a healthy quality of life that allows us to get the most out of our daily activities without undue fatigue or physical stress . The condition of physical body determines physical wellbeing. If a people will be physically fit or fine then will be happy as the state of physical disability, obesity, and serious fatal diseases can be analyzed and cured too. If an active individual that generate income in a family is not physically fine then the income can not be generated in the family due to which the needs and demands of the members of family may not be fulfilled as well as there may be mental tension between them that may lead to unhappiness as well due to the tension of the individual. Also, it can delay the development of nation too due to lack of skilled manpower working hard.

Psychological wellbeing- Psychological wellbeing refers to the state of mind impact in which mind is at proper condition, can cope with normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully etc. In this aspect, the psychological disorder and use of medicine to reduce mental pressure/illness are analyzed to know psychological wellbeing. People with high psychological well-being report feeling capable, well-supported, and satisfied with life. Also if a person is psychologically well they can remain happy as they can work actively that helps to fulfill their need and demand and also development of nation takes place due to the availability of expertise human resource.

Wellbeing at workplace/office- Workplace Wellbeing relates to all aspects of working life, from the quality and safety of the physical environment , to how workers feel about their work, their working environment , the climate at work and work organization. If all the people get job or employment then there will be no problem of fulfilling their basic need and demand that can make people happy and may lead to development as well but when there will be lack of work then there will be lack of money and people may start to do robbery, kill people due to which the whole the country will face problem which will upset people and development may not take place as alike to that.

Social wellbeing- Social well-being is an end state in which basic human needs are met and people are able to coexist peacefully in communities with opportunities for advancement . Without basic necessities large-scale social instability will persist because people will be unable to resume the functions of normal life sustaining a livelihood, traveling safely, engaging in community activities, or attending school . Without helping people return to their homes or new communities of their choice or providing a means for peacefully resolving disputes, people may not move beyond violent conflict or rebuild their lives.

Political wellbeing- Political wellbeing is stated as the purpose of getting freedom, introduction of democracy, inherit rights to every individual living in a certain nation. If there will be good political system then it will not take a time to progress a nation to be developed. Due to political progress, there will also be equal facility and equal freedom for everyone which will bring happiness in the face of every individual of a country. Democracy, personal freedom, internal and external conflict are consider to measure political wellbeing.
