Minimum Requirement for Seafarers to Work on a Ship.
Regulation 1.1. MINIMUM AGE JEBSEN PTC does not employ any seafarers 18 years old and below.
Regulation 1.2. MEDICAL EXAMS AND CERTIFICATES FOR SEAFARERS Under flag state regulations, seafarers must undergo a medical examination prior to employment aboard a vessel. The medical certificate shall be valid for a maximum of two (2) years. Seafarer’s whose medical certificate had expired while onboard shall undergo a medical exam at the any convenient port prior to expiration. The scope of the medical exam must be the same. The medical certificates for seafarers working on ships ordinarily engaged on international voyages must as a minimum be provided in English..
Regulation 1.3. TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS Seafarers shall not work on a ship unless they are trained or certified as competent or otherwise qualified to perform their duties. Seafarers shall not be permitted to work on a ship unless they have successfully completed training for personal safety on board ship. Training and certification will be in compliance with the requirements of the STCW convention, as amended and revised from time to time..

SEAFARERS’ EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT Employment agreements, at a minimum, must contain the following: The seafarer’s full name, date of birth or age, and birthplace; The ship owner’s name and address; The place where and date when the seafarer’s employment agreement is entered into; The capacity in which the seafarer is to be employed; The amount of the seafarer’s wages or, where applicable, the formula used for calculating them; The amount of paid annual leave or, where applicable, the formula used for calculating it; The termination of the agreement shall be agreed at a specific period and the conditions thereof. No agreement shall be made for indefinite period..

Regulation 2.1. SEAFARERS’ EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENTS Seafarers signing a seafarer’s employment agreement shall be given an opportunity to examine and seek advice on the agreement before signing, as well as other facilities necessary to ensure that they have freely entered into an agreement with a sufficient understanding of their rights and responsibilities;.
Regulation 2.2. WAGES The ship management company shall ensure that payments due to seafarers working on ships that fly its flag are made at no greater than monthly intervals and in accordance with any applicable collective agreement. Seafarers shall be given a monthly account of the payments due and the amounts paid, including wages, additional payments and the rate of exchange used where payment has been made in a currency or at a rate different from the one agreed to. The company shall ensure to provide seafarers with a means to transmit all or part of their earnings to their families or dependents or legal beneficiaries..
Regulation 2.3. HOURS OF WORK AND HOURS OF REST Minimum Hours of Rest 10 hours in any 24-hour period, which may be divided into no more than two (2) periods – one of which shall be at least six (6) hours in length, and no more than 14 hours between any consecutive periods; and 77 hours in any seven-day period. Maximum hours of work in a 24 hour period is 14 hours.
Regulation 2.4. ENTITLEMENT TO LEAVE The company shall ensure that seafarers employed on managed ships are given paid annual leave under appropriate conditions, in accordance with the provisions in the Code. Seafarers shall be granted shore leave to benefit their health and well-being and with the operational requirements of their positions. Annual leave pay calculation: 2.5 days for every month of service onboard.
Regulation 2.5. REPATRIATION A seafarer shall be entitled to repatriation upon the expiry of the period of notice given in accordance with the provisions of the seafarer's employment agreement, if the seafarer’s employment agreement expires while he/she is abroad or if any of the following conditions apply. A seafarer shall forfeit his or her right of repatriation in case of: Desertion; Entering into a new agreement with the same owner after his or her discharge; Entering into a new agreement with another owner within one (1) week after his or her discharge; Criminal offenses flag state regulations; Unjustifiable repudiation of the Shipping Articles; or Failure of the seafarer to request repatriation within one (1) week from the time that he or she is in condition to be repatriated..
Accommodations, Recreational Facilities, Food and Catering.
Regulation 3.1. ACCOMMODATION, RECREATIONAL FACILITIES, FOOD, CATERING AND WATER Each ship owner shall meet, provide and maintain minimum standards for safe and decent living accommodation and recreational facilities, food, catering and water for seafarers who are required to work or live on board, or both, on ships under their management consistent with promoting the seafarers’ health and well-being..
