Its ideological extremism, nuclear ambitions, support for terrorism, and domestic repression present direct challenges to European interests and values. The regime is now politically weakened and widely discredited among its own people. Viable democratic alternatives exist. The European Union must seize this moment to stand with the Iranian people and support a peaceful transition toward democracy and freedom. A Shared Threat to Europe and the Iranian People The Iranian regime is both the chief oppressor of its citizens and a destabilizing force for the international community. It is a common adversary of Europe, its transatlantic allies, and moderate partners in the Middle East. Today, the regime is more isolated and vulnerable than ever. The EU has a historic opportunity to support the democratic aspirations of the Iranian people and contribute to a more stable and peaceful regional order. This Is Not a Conflict With the People of Iran This is not a confrontation with Iran as a nation, but with the authoritarian regime that has hijacked it. The Iranian people—heirs to a rich cultural and historical legacy—are the regime’s first and greatest victims. For decades, they have resisted oppression and called for justice and democracy. Iranian women and youth have led this struggle with extraordinary courage. Supporting their demands is not foreign interference—it is a defense of universal rights, aligned with the EU’s founding principles. A Regime Ideologically Hostile to Europe The Islamic Republic is founded on an expansionist revolutionary ideology. Its goal is not coexistence, but confrontation—through the export of its Islamic revolution and hostility toward the West. This ideological core is not subject to reform or compromise. It is fundamentally incompatible with liberal democracy and with the European Union’s values of pluralism, tolerance, and human dignity..

[Audio] Slide number two of our presentation will discuss the need for European Union support for democratic change in Iran. The Iranian regime uses diplomacy as a delay tactic and poses a threat to European and global security. It should be noted that they do not see diplomacy as a path to peaceful resolution, but rather as a tool for survival. Their history shows a pattern of using negotiations to buy time, suppress dissent, and strengthen their military capabilities. As long as this regime remains in power, it will continue to pose a major threat to global stability, including the safety of European citizens, infrastructure, and institutions. Moreover, the regime's activities also endanger European interests in various areas. One particular concern is their active pursuit of nuclear weapons and long-range missiles, which pose a direct threat not only to the region but to the entire world. Additionally, the regime has been known to support Russia by supplying them with drones and military aid in their conflict with Ukraine. This not only undermines European security but also goes against the EU's values of democracy and human rights. It is evident that the Iranian regime presents a multi-dimensional threat to European and global security. Therefore, it is crucial for the European Union to take a strong stance and support democratic change in Iran. By standing with the Iranian people in their quest for freedom and democracy, the EU can promote regional stability and uphold their values and interests. This is a vital step in ensuring a safer and more secure world for all. Thank you for your attention..

[Audio] We will be discussing the discredited regime in Iran and the presence of alternatives on slide number three. It is evident that the current Iranian regime poses a threat to regional stability, global security, and the human rights of its citizens. Recent reports have shown that a vast majority of the Iranian population supports political change. Opposition figures, like Reza Pahlavi, have emerged as legitimate voices for a secular and democratic alternative, advocating for human rights, the rule of law, and peaceful reintegration into the international community. It is imperative for the European Union to engage with these democratic alternatives and plan for post-regime support mechanisms. As Europe, we have a strategic and moral responsibility to support those fighting for freedom. The fall of the Berlin Wall and the democratization of Eastern Europe serve as a reminder that autocracies crumble when faced with determined, organized, and internationally supported opposition. The Iranian people deserve the same support. As a beacon of democracy, the EU cannot stay neutral in the face of such historic injustice. This is the time for Europe to take a stand. The Iranian people are not asking for Europe to fight their battle, they simply do not want to be ignored. By supporting them, we will be defending peace, human rights, and security. This is a unique opportunity for the European Parliament and EU institutions to recognize the legitimacy of the Iranian democratic movement, denounce the regime's actions, and prepare for a future democratic transition. It is our chance to be on the right side of history. As the League of European Advocacy for Democracy, we call on all members to act for Europe. The European Union was founded on fundamental values shared by its member countries. It is time for us to uphold those values and stand with the Iranian people in their struggle for freedom and democracy. The time to act is now. Thank you..
