[Audio] Welcome to BBB! We are so glad you're here!.
[Audio] Wifi Access is posted in the breakrooms. The Wireless Network is MyBBB with a capital 'M' and lowercase 'y' and three capital 'B's'. The password is the same with the numbers '1, 2, 3' following and an exclamation point..
[Audio] We are going to run through a quick overview of some of the policies here at BBB..
[Audio] BBB has certain policies and rules to govern the conduct and performance of our associates. The next few slides contain a few important policies but are not limited to only these shown in the presentation. Please refer to the employee handbook for more details..
[Audio] BBB is committed to providing a safe work environment. That commitment is jeopardized when any of our employees illegally use drugs. Under our drug-free workplace policy, BBB achieves commitment to your safety through a combination of testing, education, and discipline where necessary. Make sure any valid prescriptions are communicated to HR prior to the start of work as some prescriptions can trigger a positive drug test result. Employees in need of help must seek assistance from the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) before alcohol or drug problems lead to disciplinary actions..
[Audio] Some policies that we highlight include the following. First, we do not allow stealing or theft. If you'd like to leave your personal belongings or store them securely, we keep the breakroom locked except during break time and lunches. Management keeps these keys. You may also feel free to store items in your car. BBB Is not responsible for any theft or damage to your car. We urge you to lock your vehicles. Next, parking areas are in the back and sides of the building and are available on a first come first serve basis. Finally, visitors are not allowed on the premises except for the drop off and pick up areas identified in the following slide. Should anyone need to see you to bring you something like lunch, they must be at the front office and go through the visitor protocol..
[Audio] Visitor's are only allowed in the front 'Drop Off' area at the front office. The Pick Up location is as shown, passed the gate on the left..
[Audio] Workplace violence will not be tolerated. Should you witness workplace violence please contact your manager, supervisor, or HR to report it. Be courteous and respectful. Listen to your supervisors. Keep your work areas clean. Keep restrooms clean. Treat the plant as if you lived here. You spend a lot of time here, let's work together to not trash or vandalize. Do not block fire extinguishers or aisles or exits. Be aware around equipment and know your work area well..
[Audio] Please do not sleep on the job. We have seen some people nod off and can only assume you are not fit to work in that position. If you feel sleepy, move around or do a quick stretch. Associates are required to clock in and out at the start and end of each shift. Shift times are 7 AM – 5:30 PM Monday through Thursday and Fridays are til 3:30 PM if you're working overtime. You are not allowed to clock in more than 15 minutes prior to your shift. So if you clock in at 6:45 AM this gives you time to use the restroom, put your items up in the breakroom or your locker, prepare for your shift. If you have issues clocking in or out or need any changes or corrections, get with your supervisor. You are not allowed to clock another employee in or out. As mentioned, overtime is on Fridays and is posted weekly with work areas must report to work on Fridays..
[Audio] Do not smoke inside buildings or near flammables. There is a flammable shed in the back lot. Smoking is only permitted in designated smoking areas where smoking receptacles can be found to dispose of cigarette butts. You may smoke only during scheduled breaks. Do not shove any trash down the smoking receptacles. If someone comes up behind you and you just shoved a candy wrapper in the smoking bin, then that person puts their hot cigarette butt into the same bin, this can cause and has caused a fire hazard. Keep the grounds clean, do not throw butts on the ground. Smoking is a privilege and can be taken away if rules are not respected and followed. Not every exit is a smoking section. Look for any NO SMOKING signs to indicate if you are allowed to smoke in this area. Many areas are available to you. Please use these areas and not the 'No Smoking' areas..
[Audio] BBB has a dress code. If you are an office worker, you may dress in business casual attire and jeans are allowed. If you are on the floor, you can wear whatever you like so long as you are covered up, there is no slander or offensive slogans or pictures on articles of clothing, and you have on closed toe shoes. We do not require steel-toed shoes; however, you may wear these if you so choose. During hotter weather we understand that a plant can get pretty warm and so we provide water bottles and ice at all times and at certain temperatures we prolong breaks and may provide ice cream. Shorts are allowed so long as they are modest and in good repair. Ask your supervisor if you are confused about the dress code..
[Audio] BBB is an equal employment facility. We expect all employees to treat everyone with respect, this includes visitors, customers, peers, and any person you may come into contact with on BBB property. You will receive a copy of the Anti-Harassment and Non-Discrimination Policy to review and sign..
[Audio] Let's move on to Safety and Environmental Awareness..
[Audio] Your safety is a top priority at BBB. We have an open-door policy for you to talk with management. We encourage you to approach your supervisor with any questions or concerns. Additionally, you may contact EHS Manager or Quality Manager..
[Audio] While working you will be trained on the work instructions per your job area. On the second page of all work instructions you will see a red header box pertaining to hazards and risks associated with the job, the ppe required for the job to help prevent these hazards and risks from taking effect, and additional preventive actions and controls. In addition, Safety Key Points are mentioned on each work instruction step where needed. If you are working and you notice a safety issue or hazard that has not been addressed in the work instructions, please let your supervisor or the EHS Manager know. We always want to continually improve..
[Audio] BBB has a hazard communication program for your safety. These are the basic elements of hazard communication. Container labeling is particularly important when chemicals are removed from their original containers for use in production. If you see unlabeled containers in your area, notify the supervisor so the substance can be identified and a label provided. SDS sheets are located in the break room in hard copy form. Electronic copies are kept in a secured shared drive and are always accessible for employees. You should be aware that BBB also provides engineering controls such as adequate ventilation and dust collection to reduce or prevent you from being exposed to hazardous chemicals. PPE is required for certain work areas, as well. You'll see these located in your work instructions..
[Audio] Eye protection such as safety glasses with side shields, or prescription safety-approved glasses with removable side shields must be warn in all areas of the plant, except offices. In the assembly and disassembly areas, proper hearing protection and safety glasses must be worn. When I say proper hearing protection that does not include apple air pods or wireless headphones. Speakers may be at workplaces for music and at appropriate volumes. Other job-specific PPE includes gloves, back braces when living heavy objects, and face shields in metal grinding areas. For the best information on what PPE to wear in your work area, check with your work instructions or supervisor..
[Audio] Hazardous chemicals are classified as shown on the screen. Health hazard examples include oral toxicity, skin corrosion, eye damage, respiratory damage, reproductive toxicity, target organ toxicity, carcinogenic, etc. Physical hazards of chemicals at BBB may include flammable, corrosive to metal, gas under pressure. An example of a hazardous chemical used commonly is Paint Thinner. Its primary hazard is flammability..
[Audio] As mentioned previously, labeling is important. Imagine finding a bottle of clear liquid and not knowing if it is water, alcohol, or another substance. At BBB, we use original containers with the original labels as much as possible. When products must be transferred to a secondary container, it must be labeled per the OSHA standards. Information must include the name of the product and adequate information about the hazards. Here at BBB, we use HMIS labels. As you can see, a number '0' indicates a minimal hazard, whereas a number '4' indicates a severe hazard. For the PPE designation, the alphabet is used. An 'A' would represent that safety glasses must be worn for the chemical. A 'B' indicates Safety Glasses and Gloves. You won't typically see anything more severe than these cases. REPORT ANY UNLABELED CONTAINER SO THAT A LABEL MAY BE PROVIDED BY MANAGEMENT..
[Audio] It is customary to use an HMIS label and pictogram to represent the chemical hazards. All labels are found with the EHS Manager. Here is an example. Let's say you need to fill up a secondary container of Paint Thinner. You must go to your EHS Manager and obtain a label for Thinner to attach it to the secondary container. This will be pre-filled by the EHS Manager per the SDS of that chemical..
[Audio] These are TOSHA recognized pictograms that appear on SDS's and labels. The manufacturer of the chemical decides which ones relate to their product. You don't have to memorize these, but as you see them on labels, read the label and understand their meaning. A common one at BBB is the Flame pictogram shown in the top center position. The exclamation mark covers a lot of hazards, and it also appears on several labels here in the plant..
[Audio] Safety Data Sheets are 16-section standardized formats and are consist internationally. These are available for chemicals used in the workplace. These are available electronically from any web browser or hardcopies may be found in the breakroom. Ask your supervisor if you have any questions regarding how to access the SDS's..
[Audio] Permanent eyewash stations and safety showers are located through the facility in the front warehouse, outside the quality office, and next to the restroom's downstairs. Portable eyewash stations are located throughout the work cells. The purpose of the smaller portable stations are to get you to the permanent stations where you can flush your eye out for 15 minutes should any injury occur. If you become drenched from head to toe in a hazardous chemical, turn on the safety shower and stay for 15 minutes. Do not rub your skin. A change of clothes or coveralls will be provided for you..
[Audio] As an employee in an industrial plant you need to be aware of lockout / tagout..
[Audio] Lockout / tagout is a method used to protect people who are performing maintenance on equipment. Essentially it is a process that instructs those authorized persons on how to apply a lock to prevent unexpected startup or energization of the equipment. As a production employee you need to be aware that this process exists and know not to attempt to start any locked-out machine. Do not tamper with or cut off locks. If you are a maintenance or other authorized employee, you will be receiving more detailed training on this subject..
[Audio] Use common sense when working with machines. Know the machine you are using. Engage in the safety features and know the risks. Never put your hand into a machine unless the machine is turned off or in safe mode. Signage is posted in areas where you should avoid loose clothing, articles, or long hair..
[Audio] BBB has forklift traffic in addition to pedestrian traffic. Although pedestrians have the right-of-way please be aware of your surroundings. Only a trained person may operate forklifts. Listen for the sound of the horn, listen for the sound of the backup alarms, look for lights, be cautious around corners or crossways. Use the walk-through for pedestrians when walking through overheads. Doorways are for you and bay doors are for the forklift..
[Audio] Do not suddenly stop, do not walk too close to lifts, do not try to 'beat' a forklift, avoid blind spots as much as possible..
[Audio] Moving onto our EAP. What to do in case of emergencies?.
[Audio] Currently there is not your standard pull fire alarm. We have air horns placed at most fire extinguisher locations. There is also a card beside these indicating how many blasts to perform in the case of an emergency. Severe weather calls for 1 long blast, fire is 3 short blasts, and gas leaks or potential for an explosion is 5 short blasts..
[Audio] Fire exit maps are posted in several locations including the employee walkway near restrooms, and the breakroom and offices. Be familiar with exits close to your work area by viewing these maps, and by just looking around. If you see a fire, be loud and yell FIRE! Sound the air horn and start an orderly exit. If you pass an air horn, sound it with 3 short blasts. Evacuate immediately, but do not run. Don't wait for an emergency, be aware of your exit path and the assembly area ahead of time. Don't attempt to fight a fire with a fire extinguisher unless you have been trained to do so..
[Audio] Should you absolutely need to use a fire extinguisher, utilize the extinguisher with the PASS method. PULL, AIM, SQUEEZE, SWEEP. If the fire is not extinguished, proceed to evacuation..
[Audio] Here are the Evacuation Plan Basics. Main Warehouse Evacuation Plan Basics.
[Audio] There is an assembly point in the front and back of the plant. Know your zone and locate assembly points for proper preparation. Keep in mind, if you are in a restroom in another zone (for example Zone 2), and you work in Zone 4. You're assembly point is located in the back parking lot, however the alarm sounds while you are exiting the restroom. Proceed to the nearest exit and nearest assembly point. We have walkies and can communicate to your supervisor or line lead exactly where you are. This is preferred to you walking through a burning building..
[Audio] In the event of a tornado or severe weather, go to the restrooms or breakroom. These are very solidly constructed areas and provide the best chance of avoiding injury. Prop any tables against the windows and keep away from electrical equipment or components..
[Audio] In case of an explosion or gas leak or bomb, sound the alarm 5 short blasts from the air horn, then run 100 yards from the building. Do not start your vehicle or stop for belongings..
[Audio] If there is an active shooter, call 911. This scenario can change depending on many factors. The main thing you must do is remain calm. Run if you can and escape the Active Shooter. Hide and avoid the active shooter to the best of your ability. Fight the active shooter as a last resort option..
[Audio] Even though we all work together to minimize accidents, someone is bound to sustain an injury at some point. We have a solid safety record, and most injuries are minor ones such as small cuts or abrasions..
[Audio] It is important that management knows about any injury or work-related illness you have experienced. Number 1, it allows us to help protect you by giving proper attention to the injury. Number 2, it gives us insight as to how the safety program may be improved. With that in mind, report all injuries to supervision as soon as possible and follow the steps listed on the screen..
[Audio] First Aid kits are located within the inventory cage, your EHS Manager, or ask your supervisor. Small kits are dispersed to line leads for immediate response..
[Audio] You must be aware of bloodborne pathogens or BBPs. A BBP is a pathogenic microorganism that are present in blood and can potentially cause diseases. These can include HBV or HIV. Do not attempt to clean blood or other bodily fluids from another person without proper training and PPE. If you have a cut or any open wound and you decide to wipe up someone elses blood from a minor injury, you could still be infected! That blood may enter your wound and circumstances may be dangerous!.
[Audio] Moving onto the environmental side of things…Here at BBB we have a small amount of waste and are known as a Very Small Quantity Generator. This means we barely produce hazardous waste. However, we collect a drum or two every few years of aerosol paint waste. This is highly flammable and considered hazardous per EPA. Because of this, there are proper storage, handling, and disposal measures taken. Our waste area is located downstairs next to the paint department. You will notice wastewater totes and several drums in this area. Do not block drums, do not leave containers open, do not trash the area, do not move containers. Keep this area dry and clean. Each container is in its location and indicated with proper signage and labels. We have satellite accumulation points and a central accumulation point and universal waste. Spill kits are nearby and shown with signage for chemical spills. A very important item to note: If you are changing out your mop water, dump all dirty mop water in the wastewater totes, NOT THE SINK BASIN WHERE YOU WASH YOUR HANDS. This is not permitted. If you want to know more information about environmental waste and handling, feel free to talk to your EHS Manager..
[Audio] BBB is an ISO certified facility. This means we have a certification that indicates we are capable of implementing and maintaining proper management systems such as environmental health and safety and quality areas. Many of our procedures are integrated to meet these requirements. One thing you should really take from this is that we hold two policies. An EHS policy and a Quality policy. These are posted in the front office and posting areas along the walkway..
[Audio] The key takeaway from these policies are that we, as a company, want to continually improve not only for our customers but all of BBB! We can exceed quality expectations by meeting customer requirements, and we can provide a safe and healthful workplace..
[Audio] There are three 10-minute breaks and 2 lunch breaks. Lunch is determined by job area..
[Audio] Does anyone have any questions?. ANY QUESTIONS?.
