Plot. Two prisoners of different race are chained together at a truck carrying prisoners . Somehow , they escape and learn how to work together . Noah (the black character ) sings a song called ’’Long gone ’’ each time he’s captured ( Perhaps to escape reality ). He wants to be free from oppression . What does ’’long gone ’’ symbolise ?. The writer-Chris Smith based the song on a real incident, where a black man (Long John) escapes prison . He is sort out by Joe Turner ( police officers) with their investigation hounds but , by the time they pick up Long John’s scent , ’’ He was long gone ’’. For Noah he’s chased by the southern police officers with their dogs and whenever he’s captured as a prisoner , Noah starts singing and doubling as an effort to escape the reality .
