[Audio] Dr Jitendra Singh Released "ICMR-India Diabetes ' INDIAB', Jammu Related Data of the 1st of its Kind World's Largest Survey On 20th October 2024, Union Minister, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Science & Technology(MoST), released 'ICMR-India Diabetes 'INDIAB', Jammu related data of the 'first of its kind' world's largest survey to assess the prevalence of Diabetes in India, including Jammu & Kashmir(J&K), during the event held in Jammu, J&K. The study was conducted by the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation(MDRF) with the collaboration of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Department of Health Research, under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW). ICMR-India Diabetes: i.The findings of the study will help to assess the health burden due to Diabetes, prediabetes and metabolic Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). The study is expected to support policymakers, health professionals and stakeholders to develop targeted interventions for prevention and management of Diabetes and other NCDs in Jammu and across India. ii.The total participants screened for diabetes and other metabolic disorders in all the phases of the study were 1,21,077, which makes it one of the largest epidemiological studies on diabetes on a global scale. Key Highlights: i.The Jammu phase surveyed 1,520 participants across urban and rural areas, providing meaningful insights into the region's health landscape. ii.As per the survey, the overall prevalence of hypertension, generalized obesity and abdominal obesity in Jammu came out to be 27.1 %, 41.7 % and 62.7 % respectively. iii.According to the ICMR-INDIAB study, 10.8% of the population in Jammu region is affected by prediabetes, showing that there is an urgent need for action against the growing burden of NCDs in the region. iv.Moreover, the overall burden of the disease in Jammu region covering its 10 districts is 18.9%, with 26.5 % in urban areas and 14.5% in rural areas which is higher than the national average. [Audio] Highlights of IMC 2024: i.The IMC 2024 saw a lineup of over 310 partners and exhibitors, with participation from 13 government ministries, 29 academic institutions, 920 startups, and representatives from more than 123 countries. ii.Key discussions included building a future roadmap for 5G, AI and emerging technologies, with a strong emphasis on public-private partnerships to boost innovation and digital inclusion. ITU-WTSA 2024's Innovation Xchange The Innovation Xchange, a foundational event of the ITU-WTSA 2024 was held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi to promote global technological collaboration. i.Objective: To foster international collaboration and innovation across key themes in emerging technologies. ii.The program included thematic discussions on NextGen Networks (5G/6G), AI & robotics, Secured Communication Networks, and Quantum Communications. iii.Each theme involved teams from India and other ITU member countries such as The United States of America (USA), The United Kingdom (UK), The United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Singapore. The launch was also attended by Union Minister of State (MoS) Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, MoL&E, among others. eShram – One Stop Solution will act as a facilitator, ensuring that unorganised workers can easily access various Government schemes. Key Points: i.The eShram portal, originally launched in August 2021 by MoL&E for creation of National Database of Unorganized Workers (NDUW). It has already registered over 30 crore workers, showcasing its vital role in providing welfare services. Unorganized workers aged between 16-59 years can register on this portal. ii.There is a significant increase in user engagement, with approximately 60,000 to 90,000 new registrations daily, reflecting growing trust in the platform. iii.The platform integrates key welfare initiatives such as: ONORC: One Nation One Ration Card MGNREGA: Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act NSAP: National Social Assistance Programme NCS: National Career Service PM-SYM: Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan iv.The initiative aligns with the government's broader strategy to improve the livelihoods of unorganized workers and ensure their well-being through targeted welfare schemes. [Audio] FESTIVAL Ustad Allauddin Khan Festival celebrated in Maihar, MP Ustad Allauddin Khan Festival(also known as Allauddin Khan Sangeet Samaroh)celebrated in Maihar, Madhya Pradesh (MP) is dedicated to the legendary musician Ustad Allauddin Khan. 2024 is the Golden Jubilee year of this music festival. This three-day festival (October 8-10, 2024), organized by the Madhya Pradesh Culture Department,the Maihar District Administration and the Ustad Allauddin Khan Music and Art Academy, features performances from renowned artists across India. The event aims to celebrate and promote the rich musical heritage of MP and engage the younger generation in classical music traditions. OTHER NEWS MoHFW Released National Health Accounts Estimates for India 2020-21 and 2021-22 On 25th September 2024, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) released the National Health Accounts (NHA) Estimates for India 2020-21 and 2021-22. These estimates are 8th and 9th editions of reports released annually by the MoHFW. As per these latest NHA estimates, the Out-of-Pocket Expenditure (OOPE) out of the Total Health Expenditure has decreased significantly from 64.2% (in 2013-14) to 39.4% (in 2021-22) which shows a positive indicator in the health sector. About NHA Estimates: i.NHA Estimates for India are prepared by National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC) which was designated as National Health Accounts Technical Secretariat (NHATS) in August, 2014 by the MoHFW. ii.These estimates are prepared based on the globally accepted accounting framework of 'A System of Health Accounts (SHA), 2011' which facilitates inter-country comparisons, developed by World Health Organisation (WHO). iii.The report provides a systematic description of the financial flows of the health system of India by various sources, how healthcare is provided, and the nature of healthcare services that are used. Health Expenditure Estimates : i.The NHA estimates for 2021-22 show that the Government expenditure for healthcare is increasing steadily in the country which reflects the efforts of the Government of India (GoI) to increase public investments in the health sector. ii.As per the NHA, share of Government Health Expenditure (GHE) in the overall Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country has increased from 1.13% (in 2014-15) to 1.84% (in 2021-22). iii.Also, GHE in terms of the General Government Expenditure (GGE) has increased from 3.94% (in 201415) to 6.12% (in 2021-22). iv.In per capita terms, GHE has increased 3 times from Rs 1,108 to Rs 3,169 between 2014-15 and 202122. The NHA estimate reveals that the government spending on health between 2019-20 and 2020-21 has increased by 16.6%. While, government spending has increased exponentially by 37% between 2020-21 and 202122, which highlights the robust role played by the GoI in tackling COVID-19 pandemic. v.The share of GHE in the Total Health Expenditure (THE) of the country has increased from 29% (in 2014-15) to.
