As per it, Section 6 ampere does not violate Articles 6 and 7 of the Constitution, which pertain to citizenship rights established at the Constitution’s commencement in 1950.Instead, Section 6 ampere addresses migrants from erstwhile East Pakistan (Present Bangladesh), specifically those who entered Assam between January 1, 1966, and March 24, 1971. Here are its key provisions: i.It grants citizenship to individuals who entered Assam before January 1, 1966. Those who arrived between January 1, 1966, and March 24, 1971, can apply for citizenship after ten years of residence in Assam. ii.Individuals entering Assam after March 25, 1971, are classified as illegal migrants and are subject to deportation under legal procedures. iii.Citizens recognized under Section 6A enjoy all rights and obligations similar to Indian citizens but may face restrictions on voting for a specified period if they entered during the defined timeframe. Why was Section 6A challenged? Petitioners, including the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Assam Public Works (APW) and the Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha/ASM (Lead Petitioner), argued that the different cut-off date for citizenship in Assam is discriminatory and violates Article 14 of the Constitution of India, which guarantees equality. [Audio] Maharashtra Launches India's First State-Level Cyber Command Center to Combat Cybercrime The Maharashtra State Cyber Department in partnership with Vadodara(Gujarat) based Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Technology Services Limited (LTTS) launched India's first state-level Cyber Command and Control Center (CCC) at Mahape in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. This initiative was inaugurated by Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister (Dy CM) of Maharashtra, focuses on strengthening cybersecurity capabilities within the state. Background: The project was approved in 2016 by the then Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis. In 2022, the project was revived and approved by the state cabinet in 2023 at the cost of Rs 837 crore. CBM is designed with the ambitious goal of doubling cruise passenger traffic within five years, targeting an increase from 4.6 lakh passengers in 2024 to 50 lakh by 2047. The mission is set to be implemented in three phases from October 1, 2024, to March 31, 2029, focusing on infrastructure development, international partnerships, and sustainable practices. It aims to double volume of cruise calls from 254 in 2024 to 500 by 2030 and 1,100 by 2047. Key Points: i.Phased Implementation: Phase 1 (2024-2025): Focus on conducting studies and forming alliances with neighboring countries. This phase will also involve modernizing existing cruise terminals and enhancing current cruise circuits. Phase 2 (2025-2027): Development of new terminals and destinations to activate high-potential cruise locations. Phase 3 (2027-2029): Integration of all cruise circuits across the Indian subcontinent, marking a mature ecosystem for cruise tourism in India. The number of sea cruise passengers is projected to rise from 500,000 in Phase 1 to 1 million by Phase 3. River cruise passenger numbers are expected to increase from 500,000 in Phase 1 to 5 million by Phase 3. The count of international cruise terminals will grow from 2 in Phase 1 to 10 by Phase 3, while river cruise terminals will expand from 50 to 100. Marinas are set to increase from 1 to 5, and employment in the sector is anticipated to grow from 100,000 to 400,000 by the final phase. ii.The initiative focuses on three key segments: Ocean & Harbour Cruises: Including deep-sea and coastal cruises. River & Inland Cruises: Covering canals, backwaters, and lakes.
