MR. TAMBOURINE MAN was written by singer-songwriter BOB DYLAN.

Re-recorded by him again a half a year later on January 15 1965  with a release date of March 22. The original was comprised of 4 verses

The  Byrds  with a “Y” was a purposeful misspelling in the vein of The Beatles

who said it was the kind of music young people were listening to

Number 1 hit in America and abroad, “opened the floodgates” as Hillman has stated, and provided the first number 1 song for Dylan – ironically, as a songwriter, not as a performer

McGuinn, Crosby and Clark “auditioned” for the Lead vocalist part

Mr. Tambourine Man was the debut single by The  Byrds  for the album of the same name, and was released on April 12, 1965

“Cease to Exist”, turning it into “Never Learn Not to Love”, which Manson had specifically crafted for the group

“they (Columbia) gave him The Byrds and The Byrds were supposed to flunk the test. To get that sound, that hit sound, that ‘Mr. Tambourine Man’ sound, we just ran it through the electronics which were available to us at that time,” commented McGuinn, “which were compression devices and tape delay, tape-sustain. That’s how we got it, by equalizing it properly and aiming at a specific frequency.”.

Infused with subtext alluding to drug use; Dylan rejected the idea that the song had anything to do with drugs; McGuinn saw the song as a “prayer of submission”
