When the earthquake hit, I felt the floor shake like judgment day. I was scared, but I realized survival wasn’t just about strength it was about connection. Talking to the others, especially the young Indian girl, reminded me that life isn’t meant to be lived alone.

Mr. Pritchett: At first, I was angry angry at life, at the noise, at being trapped. But underneath, I was terrified. It made me face how small I really am.

Mr. Pritchett: Oddly enough, the others. Listening to their stories gave me focus. It reminded me we were all fighting the same fear.

Mr. Pritchett: That I wasn’t as strong or as cold as I thought. I learned I could care again.

Mr. Pritchett: My years in business taught me to control things. But in that moment, I realized not everything can be managed. Sometimes, you just endure.

Mr. Pritchett: Yes. I stopped seeing people as categories foreigners, employees, nuisances. I saw them as humans, scared and hopeful like me..

Mr. Pritchett: Dying unseen. I didn’t want my life to end without anyone knowing who I really was.

Mr. Pritchett: Sharing stories. When people opened up, it made me believe we might make it out and that even if we didn’t, we’d mattered to each other.

Mr. Pritchett: They challenged me. Their energy and honesty broke through my shell. They reminded me what I’d lost curiosity and kindness.

Mr. Pritchett: Survival isn’t just breathing it’s feeling, connecting, forgiving. We survive through each other.
