INTRODUCTION. 376D, as the name suggests, is based on the very section from which the film gets its title. It is a very sensitive film, It is a courtroom drama that showcases a case that deals with a law that doesn't exist. At the outset, if the odd sounding (to the layman) title does not make any sense to those who do not understand the judiciary or for that matter the legal language. The film is in what can be frankly termed as a touching , shocking as well as extremely emotional story that uncovers a few glaring loopholes in the Indian judiciary..

While the section deals with gang-rape, the film comes up with a never-seen-before premise that discusses sexual assault, but not in a way that the viewers expect . The best thing about this non star cast film is that it sets out to challenge the viewer’s perspective towards the subject, confronting them with some uncomfortable as well as unpalatable truths about gender..

Enviroment. In a series of heinous events one dark night, in the by lanes of Delhi. Two brothers , Sanju and his brother Devi face sexual assault when they are mistaken to be women, whose misdeeds on the Delhi border lead to some gangsters gang-raping them and it is from here that the truth which society has neither noticed nor the lawmakers. After gang rape, Sanju’s brother goes into a coma but Sandhya and Sanju do not give up and get into a fight to seek justice. Their entire life turns upside down as the duo are faced with a legal system that contains no specific law to empower them, as IPC Section 376D only protects the female gender..

- 376 D opens up debate on whether men are protected by law when from sexual assault. -They face an uphill battle with the judiciary. Unfortunately, the law has several loopholes and is not in favor of them and the cops refuse to take up their case and book the culprits because the IPC Section 376 protects only the female gender and not the males. Whether they get the justice they seek or not form the crux of this unusual courtroom drama. Let’s see…...

Section 376D of the Indian Penal Code lays down that “Where a woman is raped by one or more persons constituting a group or acting in furtherance of a common intention, each of those persons shall be deemed to have committed the offence of rape and shall be punished ….” This provision for gang-rape recognizes that it is not necessary for each person in the group to actually commit the crime of rape to have a high degree of culpability. The law penalizes any activity done in furtherance of the common intention of the group as if it was the offence of rape itself. This would mean that even persons who stand guard over doors cannot get away with a lighter punishment by claiming that they did not actually commit the sexual assault.

What is SECTION 376D?. Whoever, except in the cases provided for in sub-section (2), commits rape, shall be punished with rigorous imprisonment of either description for a term which shall not be less than ten years, but which may extend to imprisonment for life, and shall also be liable to fine. It is not bailable. The Judiciary has played an important role in protecting the rights of the women in cases pertaining to rapes and gang rapes and have also tried to interpret laws regarding the same. The courts and legislatures have to make many changes in the laws regarding gang rape to stop them from prevailing. The courts have to understand the fact that these conscienceless criminals, who sometimes torture their victims which even includes small children, are not going to be deterred by such a small time of imprisonment. Therefore, in the best interest of justice and the society, these criminals should be sentenced to life imprisonment or even death penalty..

REVIEWS. If same things, thoughts happens if our have same mindset minds it is better for our society. Our judges should learn lesson from this movie. Towards the end of Court room drama 376 D ,Judge narrates a story following the verdict of a case with minimal evidences to ensure the culprit. That story somewhat summarises the intent of this movie. 376 D is brilliant though not perfect and relevant to the core. The only drawback was that few scenes lacked the intensity in execution.For instance, scene where Sanju finds his brother unconscious could have been shot with much more intensity so that the audience can feel for the characters..

. CONCLUSION. 376D is an unique courtroom drama which can’t be seen usually in real life. Movie enlightened us it helped us to see our society from a different point of view. This showed us the loopholes of our constitution it showed us that sometimes general beliefs can be wrong too. It made us realise that ‘ SILENCE IS NEVER AN ANSWER WE NEED TO RAISE OUR VOICE IN ORDER TO SURVIVE’..
