We deliver outstanding projects which exceed client expectations, and some of these include Design & Build, HVAC Installation, on/offsite Welding & Fabrication within a variety of projects and sectors as the Main Contractor or as a Sub Contractor. Merit's approach is to develop offsite construction techniques and products to drive increased productivity and transform the way construction projects are delivered. Merit delivers buildings in an entirely unique manner through 4D BIM with up to 75-90% offsite manufacture. Site Open (Working) Hours 08.00 – 17.00 Monday to Thursday 08.00 – 15.00 Friday Saturday (as required). [Audio] Golden rules. Failure to observe golden rules will result in you being removed from the site. Absolutely no use of mobile devices in working areas Do not come to work if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs Do not alter scaffold unless you are trained and qualified No Smoking or Vaping anywhere on site (except designated smoking area) You must sign in and sign out each time you enter or leave site Written, verbal or implied discrimination will not be tolerated Use of Ladders without an authorised permit.

[Audio] COVID- 19 is a public health emergency and everyone needs to ensure they assess and manage the risks of it. 1 – Workers who feel unwell are to stay at home and follow the Government and company guidelines with regards to self isolation and PCR testing. 2 – Ensure frequent handwashing and use of alcohol gels where hand washing isn't readily available. 3 – Workers to maintain social distancing guidelines where possible. 4 - If you have been in contact with anybody with Covid 19, then please follow the Government Guidelines..

[Audio] Site procedures. Anyone carrying out work for Merit will be subjected to a full Merit induction where records of any certificates and competencies will be copied and then recorded. Method statements and risk assessments (RAMS) must be read, understood and signed before any work is carried out. Operatives to complete a POWRA card before commencing any work (Point of Work Risk Assessment) In line with the Golden Rules, anybody entering site must always sign in at main building. Never enter the main site areas without doing so, or without permission.

[Audio] Welfare facilities. Kitchen facilities which include fridges, kettles, microwaves are located inside the canteen. Please report any defects to your supervisor. Ensure that you keep the canteen and toilet areas tidy and use the bins provided. Also please clean up any spills to prevent any slip, trip or fall hazards. Drinking water facilities are also provided for your convenience. Ensure you look after them and do not vandalise them. Please report low stock drinking cups, hand towels, toilet paper, hand wash/sanitiser etc. to your supervisor, so these can be restocked for your convenience..

[Audio] Smoking. This is a NO Smoking or Vaping Site. Smoking or Vaping is not permitted anywhere within the site boundary (except designated area). Anyone found smoking or vaping within the hoarding line will be removed from site as per the Golden Rules.

[Audio] Site rules. Do not use any plant, equipment or machinery that you are not trained and competent to do so. Good standards of housekeeping must be maintained at all times. After each task, it is your responsibility to ensure the area is clean and tidy. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is to be worn at all times by operatives. A mph speed limit must be adhered to at all times. Plant/delivery vehicles to wear their seatbelts at all times. As per the Golden Rules, No mobile phones to be used in the working area. Daily plant vehicle inspection documents must be completed on a day to day basis, and any defects to be reported to a member of Management. All operatives to have an in date competency card (CSCS, CPCS, ECS).

[Audio] Personal protective equipment. The following items of PPE are the minimum requirements for anyone working on site. Suitable steel toe boots Hi Visibility Vest OR a Flame Resistant Overalls with reflective tape Cut 5 Safety Gloves – EN388 Safety Glasses or Over Glasses Hard Hat Additional levels of PPE may be required for example hearing protection or a full face visor, which will depend on what work task you are doing. Please speak to your supervisor or check your RAMS if you're unsure.

[Audio] Drug and alcohol testing. As per the Merit Company Policy, we operate regular random drugs and alcohol testing on all sites. The testing procedure is; Drug testing will be carried out by a trained Merit employee with the sample collected via a fingerprint. Any person who tests positive, will be removed from site pending a confirmed laboratory test result. Following a positive laboratory result, the person in question with be subject to disciplinary action. Alcohol testing with be via 100millilitres of breath. Tolerances and resulting action as follows. Over 35micrograms of alcohol per 100millilitres of breath, immediate dismissal from site and internal disciplinary proceedings. 16 – 34.9micrograms, instructed to leave site for the day but allowed to return. If this is to happen on 3 occasions, dismissal from site. 3.5 – 15.9micrograms, instructed to sit in site canteen until below the required level Below 3.5micrograms, no action.

[Audio] Electrical equipment. DO NOT use any electrical Power Tools or Cables that are faulty. ALWAYS check your electrical equipment before starting work. DO NOT use any electrical equipment that has an expired or missing PAT test. ONLY use 110v electrical cables. DO NOT trail any electrical cables through water. ALWAYS place cables out of the way, and above head height if possible. If this is not possible, route cables safely, and tape them to the floor to prevent potential trip hazards. DO NOT use any damaged, Power Tools, Cables or Transformer sockets..

[Audio] First aid. First Aid Stations are situated around the project and consist of the following. 1. First Aid Kit 2. Eyewash Solution & Kit 3. Biohazard Kit 4. Burns Kit 5. Names & contact details of First Aiders on site. Please ensure that you're First Aid trained before participating in any First Aid duties. If you are not, then contact a First Aider immediately. Your First Aiders on site are: Bernie Ashton Ensure that all injuries/accidents are reported to your supervisor or a member of the Merit management team immediately, so they can be added to the site accident book.

[Audio] Site emergency procedures. In the unfortunate event of an emergency that requires hospital medical support, then please follow company procedures, as follows. 1. Report the accident to your Supervisor or line Manager. 2. Ensure the information is entered in to the site accident book 3. Notify a senior member of staff if you have to leave site. 4. Take a hospital pull out from Health and Safety Board for directions. 5. Keep the site team up to date, if you have had to leave site. 6. Provide evidence to site management on your return to work. Please ensure that if you can't physically follow the above procedures, due to the nature of the problem, then someone else acting on your behalf, can. [Audio] Fire and emergency. The Fire muster point is located at – TO THE SIDE OF SITE ENTRANCE GATES In the event of a fire/alarm, then immediately stop what you're doing, and leave the building at your nearest fire exit. If already outside, then make your way to your Muster Point via the safest route. DO NOT stop for personal belongings. DO NOT leave the muster point unless you're told it is safe to do so. DO NOT attempt to use any fire extinguishers, unless you are trained and competent do so. To raise an alarm, you can activate any one of the call points, or call 999 immediately. Follow Merit's emergency procedures and go to the designated muster point and wait for a Fire Marshall to conduct a roll call. The Donseed hand scanner will be used in the event of a fire, to conduct a head count, so make sure you sign in and out daily in line with the Golden Rules. Only tackle a fire if; You are trained, competent and confident to do so. You have a suitable fire extinguishing media close to hand The fire is no bigger than a small bin (there are larger 20kg portable CO2 extinguishers at the extruders) You can maintain a safe escape route.

[Audio] Moving vehicles. The project has a mix of moving plant vehicles such as Forklift Trucks, Tele Handlers, Scissor Lifts, Diggers and Dumpers. Some are diesel operated and others may be electric. Please make sure that you're vigilant, and aware of your surroundings AT ALL times to prevent collisions with moving vehicles as some are hard to hear, especially any electric vehicles, or if you're close to any noisy construction work activities. DO NOT wear headphones listening to music, as this will restrict your hearing levels towards any moving or approaching vehicles. Keep to any segregated walk ways where applicable, and DO NOT walk in front, behind or underneath any moving vehicles, or any vehicle in operation. DO NOT cross any red light warning barriers when Forklift Trucks are in operation. Also be vigilant to the Blue spotlights, which indicates that a Forklift is approaching the area..

[Audio] Permits. If you're working in a high risk environment, then you may require a permit to start and then complete the task. If you require a permit for specific work, then ensure that a completed and signed permit document has been complete, before you commence any work. Ensure that you have the correct control measures in place, and have highlighted any key areas of this on the Permit. Make sure that you wear any additional PPE in line with your Permit and Risk Assessment. If it is a Hot Work Permit, then ensure the area is monitored for at least 1 Hour after the work has stopped to prevent any potential fires. Ensure that you add any additional control measures that might be highlighted on a permit..
