[Audio] Hello and welcome to my year 8 Media presentation. My name is Ella and today I will be analysing and evaluating how two different film posters use Media codes and conventions to represent ideas and show genre..
[Audio] The two film posters that I will be analysing today are the most common posters used for vampire diaries and Aladdin..
[Audio] Vampire diaries is a 2009 supernatural drama film directed by Chris Grismer, based on the 1991 novel by L.J Smith. Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert a young orphan who falls in love with vampire Stefan Salvatore and later his brother, Damon, creating a love triangle. When Stefan shuts his humanity off after being blackmailed by Klaus. Damon is given the opportunity to grow closer to Elena. This results in her being further drawn into the supernatural world and results in her struggling to survive supernatural events in the town..
[Audio] This slide shows an in depth analysis of each convention of the poster. I have spoken about how colour, font, imagery, scale and text are used in each convention to show meaning. I have thought about how these things show the films genre and also how they represent the themes and ideas that are within the movie..
[Audio] Here, I have analysed the overall layout of the Vampire Diaries poster. I wanted to draw conclusions as to why the designer chose to place things where they were. I thought about how these choices effected the memorability of the poster and how this contributed to the successful marketing on the film..
[Audio] Lastly, I evaluated the Vampire Diaries poster. Here, I made a judgement call about how effectively the poster showed it's supernatural drama genre, how well it showcased the film's story and how successful it may have been at advertising the movie. Overall, I came to the conclusion that it was very effective at all of these things and this was largely due to the colours, images, layout and text used..
[Audio] Aladdin is a 1992 family movie that tells the story of a young boy named Aladdin he is a poor street urchin who spends his time stealing food from the marketplace in the city of Agrabah. His adventures begin when he meets a young girl who happens to be Princess Jasmine, who is forced to be married by her wacky yet estranged father. Aladdin's luck suddenly changes when he retrieves a magical lamp from the Cave of Wonders..
[Audio] This slide shows my very in depth analysis of each convention on the poster. I wanted to talk about how the poster used colour and imagery to show meaning. I thought about the text, scale and size used when analysing this poster. I talked about how these things showed the film's genre, themes and how these could have helped with advertising..
[Audio] This shows my analysis of the layout of the poster. I thought about why the poster designer may have placed things where they are and chosen the scale that they did. I tried to conclude why they dedicated so much space to imagery and why they wanted the audience's eye to those features..
[Audio] This slide shows my evaluation of The Aladdin poster. I made judgement about the effectiveness of the conventions and codes used to show genre, storyline and advertise the film. I thought about how the colours, text, layout and images contributed to this and came to the conclusion that the poster effectively shows the family movie genre..
[Audio] What you see here is my evaluation and comparison of both posters. I made a final judgement here on which poster I believe was more successful in showing genre and advertising the film. I decided that both films used conventions and codes to effectively show genre, but Vampire Diaries was a more successful advertising tool..
