Scene 1 (0s)

[Audio] Hello and welcome to my year 8 media presentation. My name is Amity and today I will be analyzing and evaluating how two different film posters use media codes and conventions to represent ideas and show genre..

Scene 2 (15s)

[Audio] The two film posters that I will be analyzing today are the most common poster used for Aladdin and Moana..

Scene 3 (25s)

[Audio] Aladdin is a 2019 American Disney movie made by John Musker and Ron Clements and was based off one thousand and one nights the 1945 version directed by Eiichi Yamamoto. It stars the character Aladdin who was voiced by Scott Weinger as a poor Agrabah thief. Who takes princess jasmine away from her palace life with her controlling father. The conventions of this poster contains the main image, company, main characters, when the movie comes out, and the film title..

Scene 4 (59s)

[Audio] This slide show an in depth analysis of each convention of the poster. I have spoken about the placing of imagery, font, scale and text are used in each convention to show meaning. I have thought about how these things show the film genre and also how the represent the themes and ideas that are within the movie..

Scene 5 (1m 42s)

[Audio] Here I have analyzed the overall layout of the Aladdin poster. I wanted to draw conclusions as to why the designer chose to place things where they were. I thought about how these choices effected the memorability of the poster and how this contributed to the successful marketing on the film..

Scene 6 (2m 4s)

[Audio] Lastly, I have evaluated the Aladdin poster. Here, I made a judgement call about how effectively the poster showed its musical fantasy genre, how well it showcased the film story and how successful it may have been at advertising the movie. Overall, I came to the conclusion that it was very effective at all of these things and this was largely due to the placing of imagery, colours and text used..

Scene 7 (2m 35s)

[Audio] Moana is a 2016 musical action-adventure fantasy film that tells the story of a young chief who's destiny is to save her people from the terrible monster named Tamatoa. The poster you see here was one of the main posters used to advertise the film. It contains many conventions including the films title, image, release date, and the two main characters, and company logo..

Scene 8 (3m 0s)

[Audio] This slide shows my in depth analysis of each convention on the poster. I wanted to talk about how the poster used colour and imagery to show meaning. I thought about the text, scale and size used when analyzing this poster. I talked about how these things showed the film genre, themes and how theses could of helped with advertising..

Scene 9 (3m 46s)

[Audio] This shows my analysis of the layout of the poster. I thought about why the poster designer may have placed things where they are and chosen the scale that they did. I tried to conclude why they dedicated so much space to the imagery and why they wanted the audiences eye to those features..

Scene 10 (4m 14s)

[Audio] This slide show is my evaluation of Moana poster. I made judgement about the effectiveness of the conventions and codes used to show genre, storyline and advertise the film. I thought about how the colours, text, layout and images contributed to this and came to the conclusion that the poster effectively shows the Musical adventure fantasy comedy genre. However, I believe that due to the large font of the title, the poster is very effective at advertising the film..

Scene 11 (4m 45s)

[Audio] What you see here is my evaluation and comparison of both posters. I made a final judgement here on which poster I believe was more successful in showing genre and advertising the film. I decided that both film used conventions and codes to effectively show genre, but Aladdin was more successful advertising tool..
