[Audio] I am now a guest in Edmonton, a Treaty 6 territory and traditional gathering place for diverse Indigenous peoples who enrich Canada with their intergenerational stories and lived experience of survival and resistance. As an international public health student, among my privileges is learning more about decolonial movements in North America and intersectional feminism in various social science projects. I will not end this herstory without mentioning that while I always thought I am non-indigenous, around five years back, through a land repatriation effort of the Philippine government, it was revealed that my maternal side is part of the Bukidnon tribe. In my efforts to rediscover more about our family history, I came across one of my late grandfathers' compositions, Bukidnon Kanak Ha Banuwa ( Bukidnon My Home). The song speaks of land dislocation, nostalgia of geography and relations, and the wanting to return to the land. It was then that I realized, that while I thought my ties with the agtutubo ken nakurapay ti Amianan a Luzon (the Indigenous and marginalized peoples iof Northern Luzon) is due to deep empathy and care, it was my ancestors' spirit guiding me all along..
