ARE YOU UP FOR MENTORING A NEW 1ST YEAR SINGLES A-LEVEL MATHS STUDENT FROM OCTOBER 2024?.
The commitment:- The aim is that during term time you will meet weekly with your mentee for about 45 minutes. You will meet either remotely via Teams or physically at college. Mentoring will continue through to Easter 2025.
Advantages to you as a mentor:- Develop your interpersonal skills. Help to motivate and share in your mentees success. Deepen your own understanding of the maths. Looks great on your UCAS personal statement / CV. Passing on the wisdom of your own experience is good karma - helping someone makes the world a happier place!.
What you must have (and willing to develop):- CONFIDENCE in your understanding of the first year topics. COMMITMENT & RELIBILITY – you will need to keep in touch and be there when you say you will be there. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS - that means good listening and explaining skills..
Some things mentees have said about their mentors:- “They were so helpful when I felt all was lost” “Talking to someone who had been through it and who could help with the Maths was incredibly helpful.” “Having a wiser more experienced friend to talk to helped to prevent a small crisis from becoming a huge problem.”.
To express an interest write your FULL BHASVIC e-mail address and your teacher's name on the Mentoring 2024 spreadsheet on the A1 Mathematics (Singles) Pie chart team on Teams. Gary Hicks the Mentor co-ordinator will invite you to a meeting in a couple of weeks to discuss in more detail the role of a mentor. THANK YOU!.
