But after asking many more times, Kublai Khan allowed them to return to their homeland. Hangzhou The Polos wanted to get out of Asia as quickly as possible. Kublai Khan was seventy-five and they feared that when he died other leaders would struggle for power and war would ensue. To out of Asia faster they decided to start their journey by sea. Venice The Polos sailed back to Venice from Constantinople. They were finally home after their 24 year journey. The Silk Road would no longer be used because a new, hostile Khan had risen to power.
