[Audio] Good day, everyone! Today, we will learn about simple digital illustration using mobile applications. We often use our phones for communication, entertainment, and social media, but they can also be powerful tools for creating art. In this lesson, we will explore how we can use mobile devices and drawing applications to create our own digital illustrations..
[Audio] For this lesson, we will explore technology-based mediums used in emerging performing and visual arts. We will also learn how technology can be used to produce creative works while connecting our ideas to Filipino culture..
[Audio] At the end of the lesson, you should be able to identify the basic concepts, tools, and features used in digital illustration; create a simple digital illustration using an available mobile application; and demonstrate appreciation for digital illustration as a form of creative expression..
[Audio] You can say/ask it to your student po don't flash it po on screen .
[Audio] Before we begin our lesson, let us have a short activity called "Narda or Darna?" You are probably familiar with Darna, one of the well-known Filipino superheroes. We will use images of Darna to help us discover what makes traditional and digital illustrations similar or different..
[Audio] Look carefully at the images that will be shown on the next slide. Compare their appearance, style, colors, details, and overall presentation. After observing them, be ready to answer the guide questions..
[Audio] Here are two illustrations of Darna. Take a few moments to observe them. Look at the lines, colors, textures, details, and overall appearance. Think about how each image might have been created..
[Audio] Now, let us process your observations. What similarities and differences did you notice between the two illustrations? Which one do you think was created digitally? What clues helped you decide? Lastly, have you ever tried drawing using your phone or tablet? If yes, what application did you use?.
[Audio] Digital illustration is the creation of an image that can tell a story, express an emotion or mood, or promote an idea, concept, or product. Unlike traditional drawing that mainly uses physical materials such as paper, pencils, or paint, digital illustration uses software applications and digital devices..
[Audio] In simpler terms, digital illustration can be a sketch, drawing, or painting created digitally. The subject can be a person, an object, a place, or even an idea. Instead of drawing only on paper, artists can use computers, tablets, or touchscreen devices to create their artwork..
[Audio] There are different programs and tools that artists can use for digital illustration. Some examples are Adobe Illustrator and GIMP. Artists may also use a stylus, mouse, keyboard, or simply their fingers when working on a touchscreen device. On mobile devices, there are also drawing applications that make digital illustration more accessible..
[Audio] Creating a digital illustration usually begins by choosing a digital art application. Next, the artist creates a simple sketch to serve as a guide. The artwork may then be organized using different layers. Think of layers as transparent sheets placed on top of one another..
[Audio] After creating the sketch, the artist can begin adding colors. Once the final lines and colors are ready, the sketch layer may be deleted or hidden if it is no longer needed. The artist then adds final details and checks the overall appearance of the artwork. Finally, the finished digital illustration is saved or exported..
[Audio] One style that you may recognize in digital artworks is anime. Anime is a style or form of animation associated with Japan. It often features expressive facial features and dramatic gestures that help communicate emotions. Anime-style illustrations can be seen in comics, graphic novels, animations, and many digital artworks..
[Audio] Digital technology has given artists more ways to develop and express their creativity. Artists can experiment with different techniques and digital mediums without being limited to traditional materials. Technology has even expanded art into experiences such as augmented reality or AR exhibitions and virtual reality or VR installations..
[Audio] Because of these developments, digital art has become an important part of today's creative industries. Artists can use technology to explore new ideas and create artworks in ways that were not possible before. It gives them a wider range of possibilities for expressing their ideas and creativity..
[Audio] Now it is your turn to explore. Open any digital drawing application available on your mobile device. You may use applications such as ibis Paint X, Procreate, Sketchbook, or another similar drawing app. Don't worry if you are not yet familiar with the application. The purpose of this activity is simply to explore and discover how its basic tools work..
[Audio] Once your application is open, try some of its basic features. Draw a line or a simple shape, change its color, use the eraser, and try the undo feature. After that, explore at least one other feature that interests you. You do not need to create a finished artwork yet. Just familiarize yourself with the application and its tools..
[Audio] After exploring the application, think about this question: What tools or features did you discover? You might have discovered brushes, different colors, layers, shapes, fill tools, zoom, or other features. Which one did you find easiest or most interesting to use?.
[Audio] Now that you have explored the basic features of a digital drawing application, you are ready for our main activity. You will create your own simple digital illustration inspired by a Filipino value. This activity will allow you to apply what you have learned while expressing an important value through art..
[Audio] For this activity, you will need a mobile device and any available digital drawing application, such as Sketchbook, ibis Paint X, or a similar app. You do not need to use exactly the same application as your classmates. Use whichever digital drawing application is available and accessible to you..
[Audio] Create a simple and original digital illustration using your chosen drawing application. Use landscape orientation for your artwork. Choose one Filipino value as your theme: Bayanihan, Paggalang, Malasakit, Pagkakaisa, or Pagtutulungan. Use basic digital tools for drawing, coloring, and adding details. Most importantly, your finished illustration should clearly communicate the Filipino value you selected..
[Audio] Before you begin, take note of how your work will be assessed. Your illustration is worth 20 points, with four criteria worth five points each: Use of Digital Tools, Creativity and Originality, Theme or Message, and Overall Quality. To get a high score, use the digital tools effectively, create an original idea, make your chosen Filipino value clearly recognizable, and submit a complete, neat, and visually appealing illustration. Remember, you are not expected to create professional-level artwork. What is important is that you apply the tools you explored and communicate your chosen value creatively..
[Audio] After completing your artwork, reflect on your experience by answering this question: How did digital illustration help you express your chosen Filipino value? Think about how you used your images, colors, lines, symbols, and other details to communicate the message of your artwork..
