Employee engagement is the emotional mental and physical commitment, involvement and participation an employee has to the organization and its goals. Its about communicational factors with employees, diversity and cultural improvement, staff buy in for change, and better service. How do we enhance employee engagement by being a leader. I am glad you asked. So, let's talk about " Leadership at Its Best" If front of you is a piece of paper. On this paper answer this question….
[Audio] What is a leader? Let's look at the textbook definition of a leader. A person who influences and motivates a group of people or another person toward the acheievemnt of a goal. Anyone care to share? Let's do some self-reflection. The answer you wrote down are what you perceive the characteristics of a leader to be within yourself or others. Hold on to those list and ponder over them. As leaders, I challenge you to ask yourself - do I possess all these characteristics? If you answered yes – Great you are in tune with leadership at its best and I would recommend you paying it forward by developing other leaders to lead with leadership at its best. If you answered no to this question then kudos to allowing the integrity flow through your veins and I challenge you to take the initiative for self-improvement reach out to your peers, management etc. and get feedback and assistance on enhancing your leadership capabilities to their highest potential… When you plant a seed, you want to see it grow into a fruitful crop. Me becoming a regional OES specialist is the watering opportunity to the fruitful employee engagement crop I want to pick from. I see your thoughts… You are saying How? [Audio] Position versus Ability Are you a leader because of your job title or are you a leader because you possess the ability to lead? Leading by positon results in staff doing what you ask because you are the boss and over rank them Leading by ability results in staff doing what you ask merely because you asked, and they want to do it You all have heard the phrase: A happy employee is a productive employee We want employees to see past just having a job yet see this as a career Leading through your abilities ...meaning you not only possess the ability you utilize the ability to lead. Makes that transition in employees and yourself happen. This opens the door to building a relationship and being able to nurture it..
[Audio] When a flower doesn't bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower. Are you creating a growth environment? Give me an example of how you are creating that growth environment. When staff feel the environment is safe for them to flourish in, they root themselves to be able to flourish and bloom. Creating the environment of growth gives them permission to settle in and learn and develop. It also gives them permission to walk like you walk and follow your lead..
[Audio] Parenting example: I have 2 children – a 17-year-old and a 12-year-old. One wants to be a marine biologist, the other wants to go to the Olympics with gymnastics. My role as a mother is to raise my children to be goal orientated, self-sufficient, responsible and productive members of society with great potential and opportunities to lead. But How do I teach them that if I'm not showing them that in own life in my own walk. I must lead by example…. Read quotes. Deep rooting the qualities of loyalty and respect in the relationship that is being built. We must harvest what we have planted. When we see the fruits of our labor unfold then the harvest is plentiful, and we continue planting for the next season. Teaching others to do the same for those coming and those ahead in their journeys. Developing and reproducing leaders and empowering others to create future leaders…. [Audio] Go back to the list from earlier. Remember the question "Do you possess all of these qualities or these characteristics the I perceive leader to be?" Did anyone answer no to this question? Would you be so kind and share one quality that you had on your list, yet you do not possess. Ask that person to pick one of their peers. Ask that peer to share a recommendation to your peer for improvement in this area they just expressed they do not possess but it was on their list as a characteristics of a leader. Leaders must reach out to became better whether it be per to peer or some other means. There is always room for improvement..
[Audio] Can an orchestra perform to its fullest potential without the conductor? Sure, it can however the conductor is the soul of the orchestra and interprets the composer's work through the score. As parents we lead our children, as a spouse we lead in our relationships, as a Regional director we lead the Lead PM's and PM's, As PM's we lead supervisors, as supervisors we lead or staff. Staff also lead our clients… so on and so forth. It's a domino effect..
