LESSON NOTES. SURNAME : GAMA NAME : LUNGISA STUDENT NUMBER : 201909459 MODULE : MAG411 SUBJECT : AGRICULTURE SCIENCE GRADE : 11 TOPIC : PHOTOSYNTHESIS.
PHOTOSYNTHESIS. Photosynthesis is the process whereby green plants manufactured their own food using energy from the sun. During photosynthesis in green plants, light energy is captured and used to convert water, carbon dioxide, and minerals into oxygen and energy-rich organic compounds. Pigment that is involved in the process of photosynthesis is chlorophyll, it gives plants their green color , and it helps plants create their own food through photosynthesis. In plants, photosynthesis takes place in chloroplasts, which contain the chlorophyll.
REQUIREMENTS OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS.. Carbon dioxide Water Chlorophyll sunlight.
Process of photosynthesis. Sunlight Carbon dioxide - Water Oxygen Sugars.
Chemical Equation Chlorophyll 6C02 +420 -—.-+ C6H1206 +602 Sunlight.
The importance/role of photosynthesis. • Photosynthesis convert radiant or solar energy into chemical energy. •Productivity of agricultural crops directly depends upon the rate of photosynthesis. •It provides oxygen in atmosphere for all living organisms. •It maintains the balanced level of oxygen and carbon dioxide ecosystem..
The differences between photosynthesis and respiration.
The light and dark reaction/phases of photosynthesis.
. The light reaction is the initial stage of photosynthesis which traps light energy to produce ATP and NADPH, whereas dark reaction is the second step of photosynthesis which utilizes the energy from ATP and NADPH to produce glucose..
The factors influencing the rate of photosynthesis..
Light intensity. Without enough light, a plant cannot photosynthesise very quickly - even if there is plenty of water and carbon dioxide. Increasing the light intensity will boost the rate of photosynthesis..
Carbon dioxide concentration. Even if there is plenty of light, a plant cannot photosynthesise if there is insufficient carbon dioxide..
TEMPERATURE. If it gets too cold, the rate of photosynthesis will decrease. Plants cannot photosynthesise if it gets too hot..
The manipulation of plants to increase the photosynthetic rate..
