[Audio] The Khasi Pine is a coniferous evergreen pine tree in the genus Pinus. It often grows up to 90 to 100 ft tall with a straight trunk. The tree has a large distribution in Asia, stretching from the Khasi hills in northeastern India to northern Thailand, Philippines, Burma, Cambodia, Laos, southernmost China, and Vietnam. The bark is thick and dark brown, with deep fissures. The branches are robust, red brown from the second year, the branchlets horizontal to drooping. The leaves are needle-like, dark green, usually 3 per fascicle, 15 to 20 centimeters , or ( 6 to 8 inches) long. The cones are ovoid, 5 to 9 cm or ( 2 to 3 inches) long, often curved downwards, sometimes slightly distorted. The scales of second-year cones are dense, sometimes spinous. Khasi Pine is an important plantation species elsewhere in the world, including in southern Africa and South America.
