Introduction. LGBTQ+ is an acronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer or questioning. These terms are used to describe a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity. It basically comprises of people who are not heterosexual. People of LGBTQ+ Community still do not receive the benefits as a heterosexual person does. Even though everyone talks about Equality and Equal rights we fail to give them the respect they deserve. Our Society fails to understand the new terminologies and concepts that are being included within the community. The main reason behind it is the lack of correct knowledge and awareness about it. We felt a need to talk about this and hence chose Spreading Awareness about LGBTQ+ Community as our HVCO project..

To spread awareness, make students familiar with the terminology of the LGBTQ+ community. To create a safe space/environment to talk about even their personal experiences. To make them understand that people belonging to this community should be treated with equality and kindness..

We took the sample of students from the age group of 15-20 (classes IX to XII) was because students of this age are mature enough to grasp this concept if communicated properly and they are still small enough to learn and view the world with different sexual orientations normal as ever . The number of students were 5-6 in members’ individual sessions. Thereafter we did the groundwork by reaching out to our neighborhood colonies and asked them to participate in the educational session we were conducting about the LGBTQ+ community. We made a poster and presentation with all the necessary details to conduct the session. Lastly we conducted the session individually. We also interacted with the students, asked them about their thoughts and also resolved their queries..

Progress Report. FIRST WEEKLY PROGRESS REPORT. In the 1 st class we discussed about the importance, objective and the syllabus of this course. We understood the basic meaning of terms like values, ethics and morals and how they are different from each other..

FOURTH WEEKLY PROGRESS REPORT. Now it was time to divide the work. One member had to collect information about the basic terminologies and history of the LGBTQ+ Initialism . Another member collected information about the movies that represent the experiences of such people. The other member researched about the Artists and NGOs that support the LGBTQ+ community. Last member created a poster for awareness..

SEVENTH WEEKLY PROGRESS REPORT. All the information that was collected about the movies that depict the experiences of the people belonging to the LGBTQ+ community was included in our awareness presentation..

ELEVENTH WEEKLY PROGRESS REPORT. As suggested by our course coordinator, we made it sure to emphasize on the importance of giving the people of LGBTQ+ community the same respect and treat them equally as anyone else. We then planned how will we conduct the sessions, all the information we can share orally and the queries we can discuss etc..

Students had heard of few terms but did not had the right information about the community. It was observed that these students just needed the basic knowledge for them to understand, learn and accept the concepts. Another observation was that these students were willing to talk and spread awareness about the community, the terminologies and all the necessary information..

• Planning We learned the importance of good planning and organization. Without a strong plan of action one can not implement their vision. Because we did not plan our activities well enough, we faced quite a few challenges during our project . • Teamwork This experience helped us understand the importance of teamwork. While working together we had multiple personality clashes and disagreements, which ultimately made us more tolerant and understanding as a person. We also learned how to take on roles and responsibilities based on our skills and talents and flourish in a group setting. • Hope During the conduction of the session, the kind of involvement and interest we saw in the students was very rewarding. More rewarding was the feeling of hope we felt because of the interactions we had with the students. They were keen to talk and spread awareness about this..

• Compassion This experience also helped us realize that i f our acknowledgement to talk about this issue was not enough then i t is the feeling of compassion that truly drives a person to come to somebody’s aid. We are very grateful for this chance given to us by Amity University. This experience helped us become more compassionate as a person. • Communication skills We learned how to communicate and reach out to students and engage them in our session. Communicating the information in a right manner and be able to pass the emotions we felt during the whole planning part was only possible with good communication skills. • Confidence This was the first time we were independently conducting a session like this with different students. Through this experience we gained much more confidence in our skills and knowledge..

A FINAL NOTE !!! ! With this idea to Spread Awareness about the LGBTQ+ Community in our minds we worked and tried our best to inform in the most accessible way possible. The heart and Soul of our project was in wanting everyone to be treated in the same way. These two concepts are going to be our source of motivation to work on this in our future. For people to find similarities in the differences, to find peace within themselves and others , we as a society needs to keep working towards making a better world to live in, in the simplest ways possible.
