Local Environmental Challenge. One of the most pressing environmental challenges facing Stockbridge, Georgia, is stormwater runoff and its impact on local water quality. Stockbridge, located in Henry County, is part of Georgia’s rapidly urbanizing metro Atlanta region. As the city grows, more land is covered by impervious surfaces such as roads, parking lots, and rooftops. These surfaces prevent rainwater from soaking into the ground, causing stormwater runoff to flow directly into creeks, rivers, and reservoirs.
