Education. There he learned to play cornet in the home’s band, and playing music quickly became a passion; in his teens he learned music by listening to the pioneer jazz artists of the day, including the leading New Orleans cornetist, King Oliver. He left the Waif’s Home in 1914 and went on to play the cornet around New Orleans. Armstrong advanced rapidly: he played in marching and jazz bands. Why?. I chose Louis Armstrong because he is a sensational musician who was a great influence during the roaring 20's. Some interesting facts about Armstrong are the fact that he was the first black man in the U.S to host a radio show and his song "What a Wonderful World" peaked the music charts after his death. I think he made the world a better place with his contribution to the music world and the fight for civil rights..
