[Audio] Hi…. Welcome to everyone. This is a short presentation on the office workplace safety.
[Audio] There are 3 things which will be shared. Firstly, the office workplace safety do's and don't's Next, how to use the fire extinguishers and the types of fire it can be used against Lastly, we will show the escape or evacuation procedure.
[Audio] This is a summary of the workplace do's and don'ts... What we should do are such as….. Arranging the heavier items at the bottom of the racks….. this is to have a stronger base and avoid the rack from tipping over …… We should also use a ladder to make it easier when accessing high locations …… Keeping our office space neat and tidy & cleaning spills is another of the steps to follow….. this will avoid slippages or other unnecessary injuries …… Knowing the locations of the fire extinguishers and first aid kit is also important to facilitate speedy action to any situations…. Their locations can be found at the emergency escape route at the Safety Corner on each floor …… DO inform the safety team should there be any potential safety issues …… …… …… The examples of thigs we should Not do in the office are…. Not to overload the electrical sockets........ This it to avoid the power overload causing an electrical fire ……. We should never run in the office nor up & down the stairs.... Neither should we lean back on the office chairs as you can lose your balance…. Don't do either as they can lead to falls which then cause injuries …… Carrying item which blocks your view is also a don't…not being able to see where you are going is a recipe for disaster…. …… DON't mis-use the office furniture such as using a chair to reach the upper cabinets…..or leave any cabinet doors unattended…. Both of these have the potential to leave you in pain or worse, needing medical help…. …… Any open liquid sources such as your drinks should never be near electrical items….any spillage can also lead to electrical shorts or even fire …… Lastly, when requiring to move any heavy item don't lift it straight up but instead bend your knees when doing so….this will avoid physical injuries namely hurting your back…..
[Audio] For the next item, we will share on the fire extinguishers and the types of fire it can be used against. For a fire to start, it requires 3 thing. These are : Firstly, an ignition source. This can be anything from a match stick to the heat of the sun. Secondly, fuel. This is the food for the fire. Thirdly, oxygen. Without any of these 3, there can be no fire. It is notable that a fire, although seemingly slow, can travel up to 14 miles per hours in grasslands under the right conditions. . . . . . . An upwards slope of 10 degrees can double the speed of the fire. . . . . . . Add in wind conditions and a dry season, the fire can spread rapidly. . . . . . So, in the event of a fire we need to put it out as fast as possible. How do we do that? By using a fire extinguisher, a life saver in many a situation. To use it, simply remember and follow these simple steps. P . . .A. . . .S. . . .S. . . P is for pull . . . Pull the pin located at the handle of the fire extinguisher. Once pulled, test the fire extinguisher by pressing the handle slightly and ensuring the fire retardant is released. A is for aim . . . Aim the nozzle directly at the base of the fire. Ensure that you have an exit route and that you are facing in the direction of the wind, not against. S is for squeeze. . . .Press the operating handle and squeeze it to release the fire retardant towards the fire. S is for sweep. . . . Move the nozzle from side to side in a sweeping motion until the fire is completely extinguished..
[Audio] As can be seen from this table, there are many types of fire extinguishers as well as many classes of fires. . . Each type has a certain class of fire in which it can be used against. . . . For our office, we have 2 types at each floor. . . One of them is the dry powder type. This can be used against almost all classes of fire except class f which is for deep fryer fats. . . . It has a limit of up to 1000 voltages when dealing with electrical fires. . . The other type is the C O 2 or carbon diokside type. This is used against flammable liquids or for electrical fires. . . Note that the C O 2 fire extinguisher can be used for both low and high voltages and causes less damage to the electrical circuits compared to the dry powder type..
[Audio] Our final item for this briefing is the office escape or evacuation procedure. . . The emergency plan shows : A map of each floor and highlights the escape route to be taken during an emergency It also shows the emergency equipment location and emergency contact persons. as well as the E-R-T for the respective floor Note that it is expected that everyone in the building must exit within 3 minutes of the emergency alarm sounding. This target will be used during the fire drill exercise..
[Audio] This is the second floor exit. Everyone from this floor is required to exit via the staircase to the right. They are to go down straight to the ground floor and exit out through the front door..
[Audio] For the first floor exit, there are 2 staircases that can be used. The main staircase to the right is advised to be used by those to the right (highlighted in yellow). The rest should use the staircase to the left (highlighted in green). This is to reduce the congestion due to the right staircase being also used by those coming down from the second floor..
[Audio] For those at the ground floor, there are also 2 exit points. It is advised that those at the yellow highlighted area to exit via the front door. The rest highlighted in green is advised to use the rear exit door. This is again to avoid congestion when exiting the building..
[Audio] The emergency assembly point shows : A map of the nearby area and highlights the escape route to be taken during an emergency towards the assembly location Note that assembly point A is the main assembly location. The alternative location B is to be used should the main location A b obstructed. During the evacuation, kindly always proceed in an orderly fashion to the assembly location and follow the instructions of the safety team. Do stay in the assembly area until given the all clear by the incident commander..
[Audio] This is the map of the evacuation from the P S office to the assembly points. As can be seen there are 2 exit points from the P S office. The assembly point A is at the giant building while the alternative location B is in front of the food court opposite the p s office..
[Audio] This is the Safety Committee and E R T team members. Their names will be updated accordingly from time to time when there is a change in team members.
[Audio] All the information is available at the I-S-O and Safety corner which is available at each floor. You are urged to familiarize yourself with the documents and information there.
[Audio] These are the things to remember from this briefing : Know the do's and don'ts. Remember the types of fire extinguishers and the classes of fires. Understand the safety procedures that exist. Familiarise the escape routes and know that all the information are available in the safety corner..
