Take a look at this character. They probably have a multitude of thoughts going through their mind. Any one of these can be a hook for the reader. Have a look at this example:
Jasper was really hoping none of his dog friends would be at the dog park at the same time as him, especially dressed in this ridiculous raincoat. “Who on earth dresses their dog in a raincoat?” he wondered..

Hooking a reader in, either at the start, or throughout your writing with an action is a great way to energize the reader and get them interested again..
