Random testing can occur at any time and if selected you must comply as failure will be taken as a positive result and may lead to disciplinary action Do not come to work under the influence of drink or drugs, your life and possibly the life of others may depend on it. An employee, contractor or agency worker will be subject to a drugs and alcohol test where drugs or alcohol are suspected of contributing to an accident, incident or dangerous occurrence. The testing protocol is mandatory for all incidents involving vehicle collision Drugs include controlled, prescription, illegal, designer drugs and other substances eg solvents. You also have to adhere to any client testing regimes that maybe in place..

Speak up - This creates the expectation that if at any time a person is; unsure about anything, feels unsafe, and sees something or someone they think is dangerous to speak to the appropriate individual. [Audio] Some tasks may also require a permit to work. This is usually when the proposed work has been identified as having a high risk and strict controls are required. The permit-to-work is a documented procedure that authorises certain people to carry out specific work within a specified time frame. It sets out the precautions required to complete the work safely, based on a risk assessment. The permit-to-work requires declarations from the people authorising the work and carrying out the work. Finally, before equipment or machinery is put back into service, it will require a declaration from the permit originator that it is ready for normal use. Some examples of tasks that require a permit to work are listed below: Isolations Limited work certificate / Access certificate Excavation Permit/ permit to dig Hot Work Permit.

As an employee you have a duty to take care of your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your acts and omissions at work. You must co-operate with employers and co-workers to help everyone meet their legal requirements this means: Following safety instructions or signage. Reading and understanding any paperwork associated with your task. Being aware of what action to take in the event of an emergency. Reporting any defects or hazards. [Audio] POWRA – a Point of Work Risk Assessment identifies all hazards associated with every aspect of a non-routine task. It ensures appropriate control measures are put in place to reduce the risk to an acceptable level, prior to work commencing. 1. This should be completed before a non-routine task is started. 2. Or if something changes during the shift or the task. 3. Or if a new person joins the working party. Finally, if a routine task changes, then a POWRA should be completed before the task is started. [Audio] Definition of Company vehicle: Company car. Light commercial vehicles SWB or LWB. Vans. Be aware: Only persons aged 25 years and over with a full driving licence are covered on the Company Insurance. If you are under 25 you cannot drive company vehicles without the permission of the Managing Director. You will be required to complete a driver mandate form. The use of handheld mobile phones whilst driving is illegal. In addition to any fines levied by the enforcing authority, staff may also face disciplinary action. While driving company vehicles, staff must comply with traffic legislation, be conscious of road safety and demonstrate safe driving and other good road safety habits when driving..

[Audio] Staff driving mobile plant should present their driving licence prior to driving mobile plant. Staff must mount and dismount the machine only where steps and hand holds are provided and maintain 3 points of contact (facing the machine). Prior to using the mobile plant, the operator must complete Vehocheck or a pre-use check sheet using form Vehocheck / HIS-HSP21-01 and all defects should be reported to your supervisor. Staff must not use handheld mobile phones or any other device which may cause a distraction whilst operating the mobile plant. Headphones for hands free or sound systems are strictly forbidden whilst operating mobile plant. When driving on site all traffic rules and speed limits must be obeyed. Do not tamper with any driver aids or safety devices fitted. The operator must be careful to avoid conditions where the machine could become unstable. An incident is an unplanned event that causes, or has the potential to cause damage to equipment, property or the environment. A near hit is an event that, under different circumstances, has the potential to cause injury or damage to people, equipment, property or the environment. If you're involved in, or witness an accident, incident or near hit you must report this to your supervisor or line manager. Be specific and state what happened, where and when it happened and who / what was involved – give details of any injury or damage sustained. It is vital that all events are reported, as this allows us to take action to prevent potential recurrences. In addition, events are recorded on our Intranet system so shared learning can take place. If you spot a hazard, where possible, make it safe and report it to your supervisor – you may prevent an accident from happening. All sites use a "You Said We Did" board, where hazards are recorded and updates given when steps are taken to rectify them.
