[Audio] The Katipunan, or Kataastaasan Kagalang-galang na Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan organized as early as January 1892 but may not have become active until July 7 of the same year; that was the date that Filipino writer José Rizal was to be banished Dapitan. Founded by Filipino patriots Deodato Arellano, Andrés Bonifacio, Valentin Diaz, Ladislao Diwa, José Dizon, and Teodoro Plata, the Katipunan was a secret organization until it was discovered in 1896. [Audio] The katipunan was split into two groups: Magdalo was led by Balmero Aguinaldo who was a follower of Emilio Aguinaldo The second group is magdiwang which was led by Mariano Alvarez who was a follower of Andrers Bonifacio U.S. forces captured Aguinaldo on March 23 1901 and he swore allegiance to the U.S on April 1 On July 4 Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed a compete pardon and amnesty for all filipinos.
